Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response successfully covers all parts of the prompt. You provide details about the new theatre, such as its city-centre location, seating arrangements, and types of events it will host. You clearly invite the actor to open the theatre and explain why she or he would be a suitable choice due to professional acclaim and a kind heart. However, there are some contradictory or confusing details regarding dates, such as stating the opening is 'scheduled in the next month' but later mentioning 'The event took place on 15 November', which slightly affects the clarity of the message. Despite this minor confusion, the purpose of the letter is clearly met and all bullet points are addressed.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter follows a recognizable format with an appropriate opening and closing, and is divided into logical paragraphs covering different aspects of the task. However, the progression of ideas is occasionally disrupted by mechanical transitions and abrupt shifts between sentences. For instance, the paragraph describing the theatre features disjointed sentences like 'It will mainly hots plays, live musical perfomanace, and some cultural events. The event took place on 15 november...', where spacing errors and inconsistent tenses interrupt the flow. Paragraphing is used, but referencing and logical connectors between sentences could be managed more smoothly to ensure a better overall cohesion.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your message, but it contains several spelling and word-choice errors that detract from the overall quality. Examples of inaccuracies include 'will' instead of 'well', 'thetre' instead of 'theatre', 'hots' instead of 'host', 'perfomanace' instead of 'performance', 'restarant' instead of 'restaurant', 'belive' instead of 'believe', 'cherris' instead of 'cherish', 'sucess' instead of 'success', and 'cosideration' instead of 'consideration'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they reflect limited control over spelling and precise lexical items.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response demonstrates an attempt at a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as 'We would be grateful if you could come and open our theatre' and 'You are not only famous for your professional perfomance but you are the person with kind heart.' However, grammatical accuracy is weak throughout the text. There are notable errors in subject-verb agreement and tense consistency, such as 'The event took place on 15 november' (shifting past tense into a future-focused letter) and missing articles (e.g., 'with kind heart'). Punctuation and capitalization errors also occur frequently, such as lowercase letters at the beginning of sentences (e.g., 'we would also...').
