Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The candidate successfully covers all three bullet points required in the task instructions. The letter gives information about the new theatre, including its location in Mohali and technological features such as a special sound system. An invitation to open the theatre is clearly extended, and the candidate explains why Kapil is a suitable person by mentioning his popularity, acting skills, and the naming of the theatre after his song 'Bahar'. However, some ideas are a bit repetitive and under-developed, particularly regarding the description of the theatre and the justification for the invitation. Overall, the communication of purpose is clear and fulfils the general training correspondence requirements adequately, aligning with a Band 6.0 performance.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter follows a coherent overall arrangement with a standard greeting and sign-off. Paragraphing is utilised to separate the introduction, details about the theatre, and the conclusion. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty or mechanical. For instance, transitional phrases like 'If I talk about my theatre' and 'So that's why its so special' feel unnatural and repetitive. Referencing and linking between sentences could be smoother to enhance the overall flow. Paragraphs are also somewhat disjointed, but the logical progression is generally maintained throughout, fitting the Band 6.0 descriptor.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, but lacks variety and precision. The student relies on basic, repetitive terms such as 'big fan', 'big theatre', and 'shows and movies'. There are noticeable spelling and word choice errors, including 'realted' instead of 'related', 'threatre' instead of 'theatre', and 'inugrate' instead of 'inaugurate'. While the writer attempts some less common vocabulary like 'contribute' and 'blessings', the frequent inaccuracies in spelling and collocation place this firmly in the Band 5.5 category, as vocabulary limitations occasionally cause slight reader hesitation.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but control over grammar is inconsistent. There are several noticeable grammatical errors, such as 'I working an entertainment company name XYZ' (missing auxiliary verb and preposition) and 'I waiting your reply eagerly' (missing preposition 'for'). Punctuation and capitalization errors also appear, such as spacing before commas and lowercase letters after periods. Although these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent the writing from achieving a Band 6.0, making Band 5.5 a more accurate representation of current grammatical accuracy.
