Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The candidate has successfully addressed all three bullet points of the task. Information about the new theatre is provided, including its location in Niagara Falls and its focus on music, films, and upcoming dramas. An invitation is explicitly extended to the actor, and the writer explains why she would be a good choice by highlighting how her presence will make the event wonderful and inspiring. Furthermore, relevant supporting details such as timing, perks like a free film for family members, and catering arrangements are included. The tone is generally appropriate for a letter to a famous person, although the salutation "Hye Elen" is a bit informal and the closing sign-off uses "Yours faithfully" instead of "Yours sincerely" (which should be used when writing to a named person). Overall, the task purpose is clearly fulfilled.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organised into logical paragraphs, starting with a polite greeting and statement of purpose, moving into details about the theatre and event schedule, and ending with a closing request. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to separate distinct ideas. However, cohesion at the sentence level is occasionally mechanical or clumsy, such as the abrupt transition "However we decided to invite an actor..." and the repetitive use of "However, there will be..." in close proximity. Referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly with the phrase "It will be going to start 12.00pm", where the pronoun lacks a precise antecedent. Despite these minor issues, the overall progression is easy to follow and the letter reads as a cohesive whole.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully conveying the necessary information. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary items such as "grand opening", "marketing strategies", and "earliest convenience". However, there are notable word choice and collocation errors throughout the text, such as "theatre it self is an entertaining source" instead of "entertainment venue", and "start 12.00pm in the noon" instead of "noon". Spelling is generally correct, but the phrasing often feels unnatural or colloquial. While these lexical slips do not impede overall communication, they prevent the response from achieving a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, including conditional or relative clauses like "as you will the chief guest so you can bring 5 family members". There are several noticeable grammatical errors and awkward structures, such as "in coming two weeks", missing verbs like "as you will [be] the chief guest", and incorrect passive voice usage in "You will be provide with our new T-shirt". Punctuation is generally acceptable, and while these errors are frequent enough to detract from grammatical control, they rarely impede the reader's understanding of the message.
