Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Mr. Thad,
I am writing this letter to request your gracious presence on the opening ceremony of our new theatre on Sunday next week. The inaugeration ceremony will start at 11 AM followed by a trailer launch of a new movie and lunch at the end. We will be honored to have you as our chief guest on this auspicious day for ribbon cutting ceremony.
The location of our new theatre is 4500 street SW Country Club Road. Moreover, the theatre has been named upon your Great Grand father Late Mr. Charlie who was one of the greatest theatre actor of all the time, 'The Charlie Show'. That is also one of the reason why you are the best choice for our guest of honor for the inaugeration ceremony because you are the ultimate product of the legacy you hold. Everyone is your biggest fan in our entertainment company and they are extremely excited to meet you.
We will be arranging transportation and accomodation for you in case you are travelling from another city. Kindly let us know about your availability and requirements. We will be doing all the arrangements for your comfortable stay. We will be delighted to have you on this occassion.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 8.0
The response successfully covers all bullet points required by the prompt. You gave specific information about the new theatre, including its location and opening schedule. You clearly invited the actor to open the facility, proposing that they cut the ribbon. Furthermore, you explained why they are an ideal choice by highlighting the touching connection that the theatre is named after their great-grandfather. The tone is polite, appropriate for a formal letter to a celebrity, and the purpose of the communication is achieved effectively from the very beginning. Ideas are well-developed and relevant throughout the letter.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter is logically organised into three distinct paragraphs, each serving a clear purpose: introduction and event details, background reasoning and the naming of the theatre, and logistical arrangements. Paragraphing is used effectively. Cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'That is also one of the reason', and 'in case' are generally used appropriately to link ideas, although referencing and plural agreement occasionally show minor lapses, such as 'one of the reason'. Overall, the progression of information is smooth and guides the reader naturally through the request.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.5
The vocabulary used is generally sufficient and appropriate for a formal invitation. You have attempted some less common items such as 'gracious presence', 'auspicious day', and 'ultimate product of the legacy'. However, there are a few spelling and word-choice errors, notably 'inaugeration' instead of 'inauguration', 'accomodation' instead of 'accommodation', and 'occassion' instead of 'occasion'. Additionally, the phrase 'named upon' should be 'named after'. Despite these minor lexical inaccuracies, communication is never impeded, and a respectful, professional tone is successfully maintained.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 7.0
You have demonstrated a good mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as using conditional clauses ('in case you are travelling from another city') and relative clauses ('who was one of the greatest theatre actor'). Grammatical control is generally quite good, though there are a few notable errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('one of the greatest theatre actor' should be 'actors') and minor prepositional mistakes. Punctuation is mostly accurate, and capitalization and sentence boundaries are well-managed. The errors do not impede understanding and occur alongside many error-free sentences.
