Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response covers all three bullet points required in the task instructions: it provides information about the new theatre ("modern cinema"), extends an invitation to open it, and explains why the recipient would be a suitable person ("vast knowledge of cinema"). However, the tone is inappropriately informal and the register does not properly reflect a professional communication with a famous actor. Furthermore, the length requirement has not been met, as the text contains 135 words, falling short of the 150-word minimum. This under-length impacts the full development of ideas, restricting the task achievement score to Band 5.0.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The letter uses basic paragraphing to separate different points, such as the introduction and the reasons for the invitation. However, the logical progression is disrupted by fragmented sentences and weak cohesive devices. The overuse of connectors like "Moreover" and the repetitive sentence structures make the flow feel somewhat mechanical. Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as "I booked it on sunday", where the antecedent of 'it' is ambiguous. Overall, the organization is basic, but the letter remains understandable, fitting the criteria for Band 5.5.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is simple, repetitive, and largely inadequate for a formal invitation to a celebrity. Phrasing such as "This is tom working at tj company" and "big day" lacks the appropriate professional register. There are also errors in word formation, such as "memebers" (members). While the writer attempts some topic-specific vocabulary like "management" and "cinema", the overall range is limited, restricting the score to Band 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response displays a very limited range of grammatical structures, consisting mostly of simple and straightforward sentences. There are several punctuation and capitalization errors, such as starting sentences with lowercase letters ("october 2nd") and fragmenting sentences inappropriately (e.g., "so, it is not gonna hard for you"). The use of informal contractions like "gonna" is unsuitable for this type of task. Frequent errors and a lack of complex structures place this clearly at Band 5.0.
