Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response covers all three bullet points required in the task instructions. The student provides information about the new theatre, mentioning its location in the city mall, its facilities including big screens, 4D-5D motions, and seating arrangements. An invitation is extended to the famous actor for the grand opening on October 18th, and an explanation is given as to why she/he would be a good choice, noting that the company wanted a famous face for the inauguration. However, the development of ideas is limited, and some details are repetitive or lack clarity. The tone is somewhat inappropriate for a formal business letter to a celebrity, but the core communicative goals of the prompt are addressed. Overall, this performance aligns with a Band 5.0.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The letter exhibits some basic organization into paragraphs, but there is no clear overall progression of ideas, and transitions between sentences feel abrupt. Cohesive devices are either missing, inadequate, or inaccurate, such as the awkward transition 'Athough, the company decided...'. Paragraphing is poorly controlled, with the second paragraph becoming a long, run-on block containing multiple disparate ideas ranging from location to seat types and food options. Referencing is occasionally unclear, and punctuation errors further disrupt the flow of information. These limitations place the response firmly in the Band 5.0 range for coherence and cohesion.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The lexical resource is limited and heavily constrained by frequent errors in word choice, spelling, and collocation. Examples include 'inograte' instead of inaugurate, 'promtion' instead of promotion, and 'famus' instead of famous. The student attempts basic vocabulary related to entertainment and venues, but noticeable errors cause difficulty for the reader throughout the text. While the meaning can generally be deciphered with effort, the vocabulary is repetitive and lacks the precision required for higher bands. This performance reflects the descriptors for Band 4.5, which is awarded as 4.5.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response displays a very limited range of grammatical structures. Simple sentences dominate, and attempts at complex structures are frequently faulty, such as 'where company is enterainment comapny so they have plan...'. There are persistent, highly noticeable errors in verb tenses, articles, word order, and prepositions throughout the letter (e.g., 'i am invite you', 'the area of the main city mall where is near to all the people'). Punctuation and capitalization are also weak. These frequent errors cause considerable difficulty for the reader and align with the Band 4.5 criteria, which is rounded appropriately.
