Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response covers all three bullet points required by the prompt. You successfully provide information about the new theatre, mentioning its location in the old downtown, a capacity of over 1000 people, and amenities like food shops. You also include a clear invitation for the evening of 31st December 2026, and explain why the recipient (addressed as Arvind) would be a good person to open it, noting that he is a respected local hero. However, there are tone and task realization issues: opening with 'I am extremly flabbergasted to tell you' is inappropriate because 'flabbergasted' means shocked or surprised, which does not fit the context of announcing your own business venture. Additionally, naming the theatre after Amitabh Bachchan while addressing the letter to Arvind creates a logical contradiction. Overall, all parts are addressed, but the execution suffers from these conceptual and register inconsistencies, placing it firmly at Band 6.0.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter maintains a coherent overall arrangement and follows a logical letter structure, moving from the announcement to details, the invitation, and sign-off. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different ideas. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty or mechanical. For example, using 'Simultaneously' to introduce the invitation is unnatural, as the invitation is not happening at the exact same time as the previous point in a logical sequence. The use of referencing is also slightly strained in places, such as 'that you admire this personality', which creates confusion regarding who is being admired versus who is being addressed. While the text is easy to follow, these minor mechanical cohesive issues prevent it from reaching a higher band score, resulting in a Band 6.5.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You attempt a range of vocabulary, including less common items such as 'flabbergasted', 'leisure time', and 'inaugration'. However, there are significant lexical and word-choice errors that impede natural expression. As noted, 'flabbergasted' is used incorrectly for a formal announcement. There are also spelling errors like 'extremly', 'legendry', and 'inaugration', along with awkward collocations like 'named under legendry actor' instead of 'named after'. Phrases like 'from your early age' and 'hero of our city' are slightly unidiomatic in this context. Because the vocabulary is adequate for the task but contains noticeable errors and inappropriate word choices, it meets the criteria for Band 5.5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and subordinate structures such as 'I am a huge fan of the creativity... Therefore, I am giving a gift...' and 'because you are the hero of our city...'. However, there are frequent grammatical and punctuation errors throughout the text. There are run-on sentences joined improperly with commas instead of full stops or conjunctions, such as '...respect you a lot, So you will be the perfect candidate...'. Capitalisation errors are also present, such as 'gurgaon', 'Bachand', and 'december'. Preposition and article usage show occasional lapses, for instance, 'in th heart of the city' and 'on the opening ceremony'. Because errors persist across a mix of structures without entirely blocking communication, a score of 5.5 is appropriate.
