Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Shahrukh Khan,
I am currently employed to RK studios in mumbai and working as an Event manager. Our production company is opening a new studio next month. I am writing this letter to cordially invite you as a chief guest for the opening ceremony.
Firstly, our new studio is equipped with all the high tech lightings, which none other nearby studio has. Also, it has a separate entrance for actors and actresses, this avoids interruption of all their fans, so they can easily get through to the mian stage. Apart from this, our studio has one of the most advanced 3D screen for watching movie premiers.
Furthermore, the opening ceremony is next month on monday October 21st in the evening. It would be really appreciated that you would join us and be the chief guest for the opening ceremony. The main reason for you to open the studio is you have a large fan following. This will creates a huge impact and getting future contracts to work with different celebrities.
I hope you wouldn't decline my request for the opening ceremony and please do not hesitate to ask any questions about it.
Yours Faithfully,
Oman.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The student successfully covers all three bullet points required in the task prompt. First, information about the new studio/theatre is provided, such as high-tech lighting, a separate entrance for celebrities, and an advanced 3D screen. Second, a clear invitation is extended to Shahrukh Khan to act as the chief guest for the opening ceremony. Third, reasons why he is a suitable person are given, specifically mentioning his large fan following. The tone is appropriate for a formal business letter, and the purpose of the communication is clear throughout. Although some ideas like the future contracts clause are slightly awkward in their commercial framing, the response fully satisfies the task requirements in an engaging manner.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall progression and logical organisation. Paragraphs are used appropriately to separate different aspects of the letter, such as the introduction, details of the theatre, event specifics, and the closing remarks. Cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Also', 'Apart from this', and 'Furthermore' are employed to structure the sequence of ideas, though some transitions feel slightly mechanical. Referencing is generally clear, and the opening and closing conventions of a formal letter are correctly applied.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for a business communication context, using terms such as 'cordially invite', 'chief guest', 'opening ceremony', and 'advanced'. There are some minor lexical errors and awkward collocations, such as 'employed to RK studios' instead of 'employed at', 'high tech lightings' where lighting is uncountable, and 'mian stage' containing a typo. Despite these minor inaccuracies, the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the intended message clearly and successfully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms. There are successful complex structures, such as 'which none other nearby studio has' and 'the main reason for you to open the studio is you have a large fan following.' However, several grammatical errors and punctuation slips occur, including missing prepositions ('employed to' instead of 'at'), unnecessary comma splices ('separate entrance for actors and actresses, this avoids'), spelling errors ('mian' for main), and awkward phrasing like 'This will creates'. These errors do not impede communication, but they prevent the grammar score from reaching higher bands.
