Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response covers all three bullet points from the prompt effectively. You successfully introduce the new theatre and provide relevant information regarding its features, such as its 400-person capacity, 4D screen, and sound system. You invite Amir Khan to open the theatre for the ceremony on October 21, 2026, and explain why he is a suitable guest by highlighting his fantastic career and the screening of 'Dhoom 3'. The tone is appropriately polite and semi-formal for a professional invitation letter. The ideas are relevant and extend naturally across the paragraphs, fulfilling all the requirements of a General Training Task 1 letter. Therefore, this performance aligns well with a Band 6.5 to 7.0 profile for Task Achievement.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter maintains a coherent overall arrangement with a clear purpose established right from the opening. Ideas are grouped logically into paragraphs, moving from the introduction of the theatre and its features to the invitation, and finally to the reasons for choosing the actor. However, paragraphing and cohesive devices are occasionally faulty or mechanical. For instance, transitional phrases between sentences are sometimes missing, resulting in run-on phrasing such as 'The new theater is going to be a master piece in our city all the modern technology is installed in it.' Referencing and punctuation issues, such as missing commas and fragmented sentence flows, prevent the cohesion from reaching a higher band. Overall, the structure is easy to follow, supporting a solid Band 6.0.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'prime location', 'amenities', 'marvelous', and 'inguration' (inauguration). However, there are noticeable word-choice errors, incorrect collocations, and spelling mistakes throughout the text. Examples include 'on the behave of' instead of 'on behalf of', 'master piece' instead of 'masterpiece', 'que less' instead of 'queue-less', 'thourghout' instead of 'throughout', 'somthing time' instead of 'some time', and 'appreciating' instead of 'appreciated'. While these errors occur frequently, they do not severely impede communication because the overall meaning remains clear to the reader. This performance reflects the criteria for Band 5.5.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response shows a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but control over grammar and punctuation is inconsistent. There are frequent grammatical errors, such as missing articles ('organize i first show'), tense and verb form inconsistencies ('which held on', 'we are looking forward you reply'), and run-on sentences joined without proper punctuation or conjunctions ('I whould like share some information about them like it can hold...'). Punctuation is also weak, particularly with capitalisation and commas. Although the writer attempts complex structures, these attempts frequently result in grammatical slips. Because the errors occur frequently throughout the text and cause some difficulty for the reader, a Band 5.0 is awarded for this criterion.
