Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response successfully covers all the required bullet points of the task. The writer introduces the new theatre in Islamabad, clearly extends an invitation to the actor, and explains why they are a suitable person to open the venue due to their industry awards and outstanding performances. However, some ideas are slightly under-developed and lack the formal or semi-formal tone typically expected in a letter to a celebrity, as seen in phrases like 'to attract with the people'. Despite these stylistic and communicative limitations, all three parts of the prompt are addressed, fulfilling the requirements for Band 5.5 to 6.0. On balance, the coverage leans closer to a Band 5.5 due to the limited development and awkward phrasing in supporting ideas.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The letter exhibits a basic logical organisation with a clear beginning, middle, and end, starting with an opening greeting ('Dear Own,') and closing with a sign-off. Paragraphing is used to separate different points, such as the introduction of the theatre, the invitation details, and the justification for choosing the actor. However, cohesion is frequently faulty and mechanical. Referencing and conjunctions are basic or misused, such as 'because of adjustment feature, you can sit in lay down position', which disrupts the flow and logical progression between sentences. Overall, the structural arrangement provides a coherent framework, but the lack of smooth transitions and repetitive cohesive patterns places this firmly at Band 5.0.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and often repetitive, demonstrating basic functional capability. The student relies on simple terms and makes noticeable word choice and morphological errors, such as 'newly open theater' instead of newly opened, 'newly design' instead of newly designed, and 'seated are fully function' instead of seats are fully functional. Attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'international industry' and 'outstanding performance', are restricted by inaccurate collocations and awkward phrasing like 'best experience person'. These recurrent errors cause some difficulty for the reader and reflect the lexical characteristics of Band 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but control over grammar is weak. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including tense and word form inaccuracies like 'for our newly open theater', 'you can is lay down position', and 'you earn a lot of awards'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, and the greeting contains an erroneous name ('Dear Own,'). While the meaning can generally be deciphered despite these persistent errors, the frequency of grammatical slips and faulty complex structures prevents the response from reaching Band 6.0, fitting the Band 5.0 descriptor well.
