Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The response successfully covers all bullet points specified in the prompt. You gave clear information about the new theatre by mentioning its triple size and upgraded sound equipment. You extended a polite invitation to the actor and provided the specific date and location. Furthermore, you effectively explained why he would be a suitable person to open the theatre, citing his contributions to the industry and his advocacy for new talent. The tone is appropriate for a formal business letter, and all requirements of the task have been well addressed and supported with relevant ideas. Your purpose is clear and the communication flows naturally to the recipient, fulfilling the task requirements to a high standard.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter is logically organised with a clear beginning, middle, and end, following standard correspondence conventions. Paragraphs are used sufficiently and appropriately, with each major point given its own paragraph, such as the introduction, the theatre details, the invitation logistics, and the rationale for choosing the actor. Cohesive devices are generally well managed, though some transitions could be smoother. For example, starting paragraphs with lowercase letters ("i am inviting") negatively affects punctuation and cohesion. Overall, the arrangement of ideas is coherent and guides the reader naturally through the purpose of the letter, creating an easily followable progression of information.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary for the task, successfully using terms like 'vast success rate', 'advancement of the movie industry', and 'source of motivation'. There are some minor lexical and collocation inaccuracies, such as writing 'sound equipments' (equipment is uncountable) and 'recruitment of upcoming talents' (talent is often treated as uncountable in this context, or 'new talent' would be more natural). However, your vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to convey precise ideas about the theatre and the actor's achievements without impeding the reader's understanding. You also attempt less common phrases, which shows good lexical awareness.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
The letter features a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as the conditional-style opening clause 'Given the vast success rate... the need... arose'. There are a few grammatical and punctuation errors that prevent a higher score, notably the failure to capitalise the pronoun 'i' ('i am inviting') and minor subject-verb agreement or noun form issues like 'equipments has been purchased' (equipment is singular/uncountable and requires 'have been'). Despite these errors, the punctuation and sentence boundaries are mostly clear, and the errors do not impede communication. The majority of your sentences are constructed well enough to convey your message accurately.
