Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Mr. thomas,
I am writing this letter to invite you to the inauguration of a new theatre. This cinema is located in the centre of the town, known as Barrie. The name of the cinema is Golden Screen. It will be going to open for community on the 10th October 2026.
My team and I decided to invite you to this grand opening. If you could accept the invitation and join for this celebration would be appreciated. We would like to invite one of the best celebrity and that one person comes our mind is you.
We decided to invite you based on our community's voting score; we got a 98% score under your name. It is significantly indicated that all mankinds love you more that other. Another reason is on the first day of the opening will be going to show your new upcoming film.
Thank you for your time and consideration. We are looking forward to a positive reply from you.
Yours faithfully,
Diya Mona

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response successfully covers all three bullet points required in the prompt. First, it provides information about the new theatre, mentioning its location in Barrie, its name 'Golden Screen', and its opening date of October 10th, 2026. Second, it clearly invites the actor to the inauguration. Third, it explains why he would be a suitable guest by mentioning community voting results and the plan to screen his upcoming film on opening day. The tone is appropriately polite for a formal letter to a celebrity. However, some ideas feel slightly underdeveloped or lack complete clarity, such as the claim about a 98% community voting score. Overall, all parts of the task are adequately addressed, earning a solid Band 6.0.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter follows a clear, logical structure with an appropriate salutation and sign-off, divided into four distinct paragraphs. The progression of ideas is generally easy to follow, moving from the announcement of the theatre to the invitation and finally the justification. However, cohesion is at times mechanical or faulty. For instance, the transition 'and that one person comes our mind is you' is awkward, and the referencing in 'It is significantly indicated that all mankinds love you' lacks smooth connection to the preceding sentence. Paragraphing is used sufficiently, but overall cohesive devices require improvement to achieve a higher band.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The student demonstrates an adequate vocabulary range for the task, successfully using functional terms like 'inauguration', 'celebration', and 'invitation'. However, there are noticeable word choice and collocation errors that prevent a higher score. For example, writing 'This cinema is located' rather than referring to it as a theatre (as requested in the prompt), using 'It will be going to open for community' instead of 'open to the public', and using 'all mankinds' instead of 'everyone' or 'all people'. Despite these inaccuracies, meaning remains clear throughout, fitting the Band 6 descriptor well.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as conditional structures ('If you could accept the invitation and join for this celebration would be appreciated'). However, grammatical control is inconsistent. There are several noticeable errors, including tense misuse ('It will be going to open'), missing prepositions ('join for this celebration' instead of 'join us in this celebration'), and awkward phrasing. Punctuation is generally acceptable, and while the errors occasionally cause slight hesitation, they do not impede overall communication. This performance aligns with the criteria for Band 5.5.
