Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses the main parts of the task by mentioning the new theatre, inviting the actor, and giving a reason why she would be suitable. However, some ideas are only partially developed or lack clarity. For example, the explanation regarding the charity work and collection money is overly condensed and run-on, making it difficult to fully understand the proposal. Furthermore, the length requirement is not met, as the response contains only 130 words, falling short of the required 150-word minimum. To reach a higher level, you should extend all bullet points more fully, ensure every part of the prompt is thoroughly elaborated, and write at least the minimum word count.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
There is some basic organisation in the letter, starting with a salutation and a brief opening, but there is no clear overall progression or effective paragraphing. The entire body of the letter is compressed into a single, dense block of text, which makes the layout inappropriate for a formal letter. Cohesive devices are either missing or inadequate, relying heavily on run-on sentences and basic conjunctions like 'and' and 'so' rather than clear logical connectors. To improve, you need to divide your writing into logical paragraphs—such as a separate introduction, details about the theatre, the invitation, and the reasoning—and use a wider range of appropriate cohesive devices to connect your ideas smoothly.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task. There are several noticeable lexical and spelling errors that affect the quality of the writing, such as 'entertainment' spelled correctly but appearing alongside errors like 'individulas', 'donted', 'oppertunity', and 'Thankn'. Word choices are often basic and repetitive, such as 'very famous' and 'very curious', showing little variety or precision. To move to a higher band, you need to use a wider and more natural range of vocabulary, incorporate less common lexical items with correct collocations, and carefully check your spelling and word forms before finishing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The text shows a very limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple sentences or faulty complex attempts linked together with excessive comma splices and conjunctions. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the letter, including tense and agreement issues such as 'we will planned', missing articles like 'an entertainment company' and 'a single theatre', and punctuation errors where sentences run on without proper terminal punctuation. To achieve a higher score, you must demonstrate a greater variety of complex grammatical structures with accurate control, and reduce the frequency of basic errors by checking your verb forms, prepositions, and sentence boundaries.
