Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your response covers all the required bullet points from the prompt, which is a strong feature of this band. You successfully provide information about the new theatre in Saint John, NB, invite the actor to open it, and explain why they would be a great fit because they are loved throughout the city. However, some of your ideas remain slightly under-developed rather than fully extended. For instance, the details regarding the theatre's features like the screens and massaging seats are listed simply without much elaboration. To reach a higher band, you would need to extend and fully support all parts of your response with greater depth and clearer explanation of your ideas.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
Your letter demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a clear paragraph-by-paragraph structure that addresses the prompt logically. You begin with an appropriate salutation and introduction, move to the details of the theatre and the invitation, and conclude with next steps and a sign-off. However, your cohesion can sometimes feel mechanical or slightly faulty. For example, transitional phrases like 'Also, there is a' and 'Moreover, we would also love' show basic linking, but referencing and paragraph transitions could be smoother and more varied. To improve further, ensure that cohesive devices are used more flexibly and unobtrusively to establish a completely clear progression of ideas throughout the entire text.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, successfully conveying your message to the reader. You attempt some less common vocabulary items and industry-relevant terms, such as 'grand opening' and 'schedule'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors that prevent you from reaching a higher band. For instance, words like 'establish' instead of 'established', 'luxoury' instead of 'luxurious', 'induvidual' instead of 'individuals', 'inbuild' instead of 'built-in', 'throughtout' instead of 'throughout', and 'availability' misspelled as 'availability' (or used alongside awkward collocations like 'catering you') show a limited and sometimes inaccurate lexical control. To improve, focus on mastering common spelling patterns, word forms, and natural collocations to ensure precise communication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence forms in your letter, attempting structures such as subordinate clauses ('so that more individual can be attracted easily'). There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, but they rarely impede communication. For example, you miss plural markers ('induvidual' should be plural 'individuals'), articles ('for a grand opening of new theatre' is missing 'the'), and capitalization at the beginning of sentences ('we decided', 'we have'). Furthermore, there are minor prepositional slips. To progress to a higher band, you should aim for a wider variety of error-free complex sentences and exercise tighter control over articles, singular/plural agreement, and sentence-initial capitalisation.
