Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You successfully covered all parts of the prompt, addressing the new theatre, the invitation, and the reasons why the recipient is a good choice for the opening. However, some ideas remained slightly under-developed or lacked clarity. For instance, mentioning that the theatre is in 'the centre city of the heart' is somewhat unclear, and explaining why you want to use the actor's 'magic touch and vision' is a bit vague. To move to a higher band, you should ensure every bullet point is fully expanded with more precise details, clearer explanations, and a fully developed line of reasoning throughout the letter.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter maintains a generally coherent overall arrangement and follows a logical letter structure, moving from the greeting and purpose to details about the venue, the invitation, and a closing compliment. Paragraphing is used to separate different points, such as the venue description and the invitation details. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or faulty. For example, referencing can be unclear, and transitional phrases between sentences are occasionally missing or awkward, such as jumping abruptly between topics. To improve, you should use a wider and more natural range of cohesive devices and ensure smoother transitions from one idea to the next.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You demonstrated an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common words and industry-related terms like 'bollywood industry' and 'grand opening'. However, there are noticeable word-choice, collocation, and spelling errors that prevent a higher score, such as 'convienent' instead of convenient, 'sitting arrangement' instead of seating arrangement, and 'supported' instead of supporting actor. Some expressions are also unnatural, such as 'centre city of the heart'. While these errors do not severely impede communication, you need to use more precise vocabulary, improve your spelling control, and apply correct collocations more consistently.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You produced a mix of simple and some complex sentence forms throughout the letter. There are several grammatical errors in verb forms, sentence structure, and punctuation, such as 'I writing this letter' missing the auxiliary verb 'am', and awkward phrasing like 'villian, supported even though director'. Punctuation around clauses and sentence boundaries also needs tighter control. These errors mean that while your meaning remains mostly understandable, they occur regularly enough to restrict your score. To achieve a higher band, you should aim for greater accuracy in complex sentence patterns, ensure correct auxiliary verb usage, and pay closer attention to basic grammatical agreements.
