Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the task, meeting the requirements by giving information about the new theatre, inviting the actor, and explaining why they are a suitable choice. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. While the explanation of why the actor is a good choice is adequately extended by mentioning the connection to Ludhiana, the details about the theatre itself are rather basic, mentioning only that it is the ninth one and features modern amenities and a food court. To reach a higher band, the information about the venue and the invitation details would need more fully developed, extended supporting points and greater clarity throughout all bullet points.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter maintains a coherent overall arrangement and follows a clear, conventional letter-writing format with appropriate greetings and sign-offs. Paragraphing is used to separate different points, such as the introduction, the invitation details, and the justification for choosing the actor. However, cohesion at the sentence level is sometimes mechanical or faulty. For instance, the transition in the second paragraph ('Firstly, I would like ask you if you took some time') feels slightly awkward, and referencing through pronouns like 'the people' is occasionally repetitive. Achieving a higher band would require smoother, more flexible cohesive devices and clearer progression between ideas without mechanical transitions.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully communicating the main points, but it is limited and shows noticeable errors in spelling, word choice, and word form. For example, 'enterteinment', 'aminities', 'cort', and 'respond' contain spelling errors, while phrases like 'Director Head' and 'open from your hands' demonstrate unnatural word choices and collocations. The student attempts some less common vocabulary such as 'ceremony' and 'emotional connect', but these attempts are marred by the aforementioned inaccuracies. To move to a higher band, a wider range of vocabulary must be used with greater precision, minimal spelling errors, and more natural collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writing displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over basic structures. However, there are frequent errors in grammar, articles, prepositions, and punctuation that recur throughout the text. Examples include 'I am in regards to invite you', 'if you took some time' (tense inconsistency), 'in your birth place' (missing article), and capitalization errors in proper nouns like 'ludhiana' and 'our company'. While these errors rarely impede overall communication, they prevent the text from achieving a higher band. A higher score would require a greater proportion of error-free sentences and tighter control over complex grammatical structures and tense consistency.
