Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response successfully covers all parts of the prompt, fulfilling the requirements for a general correspondence task. You provide clear information about the new theatre, mentioning its location at marine drive and features like the dolby sound system. You also clearly invite the actor to open the venue as a chief guest and explain why they are a suitable choice due to their background in the film industry and the positive PR opportunities. However, some ideas are slightly under-developed rather than fully explored, such as how their presence will boost morale. This places the response comfortably at this level, as all bullet points are addressed with relevant ideas, though further elaboration on each point would be needed to reach a higher tier.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter maintains a coherent overall arrangement with a logical progression of ideas from the introduction of the theatre to the invitation and the rationale behind choosing the recipient. Paragraphing is used appropriately, separating the greeting, details of the venue, the invitation rationale, and the closing. However, cohesion at times feels a bit mechanical or repetitive in transitions, and referencing could be smoother, such as in the sentence mentioning media presence. Overall, the organizational structure is clear and easy to follow, successfully achieving a coherent flow throughout the communication.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
An adequate range of vocabulary is used for the task, attempting some less common phrases like 'chief guest' and 'boosting the morale'. However, there are noticeable spelling errors such as 'writting', 'inaguration' (inauguration), 'trasportation' (transportation), and 'Aditionally' (Additionally), alongside minor word choice inaccuracies like 'opening as a chief guest to cut the ribbion'. These vocabulary and spelling mistakes do not impede communication, but they prevent the writing from achieving a higher score. Expanding your control of word formation and careful proofreading for spelling will help elevate your lexical score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The letter displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating an ability to construct multi-clause sentences. There are some grammar and punctuation errors present, such as missing articles ('invite you for an inauguration of a new theatre'), preposition errors ('look forward hearing for you' instead of 'look forward to hearing from you'), and capitalization issues. Fortunately, these errors rarely impede communication and the meaning remains clear throughout. To move towards higher bands, focus on refining prepositions after specific verbs and ensuring greater accuracy with articles and fixed grammatical patterns.
