Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Christine,

I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter to request you to come to the opening of our new theatre. It would be really delighted for theatre members to have you here as a Guest of honor at the opening ceremony.

Regarding the location, the new theater is in the centre of the city, so that the people have easy access to it. Moreover, it has all the modern equipments with well established lighting and sound features. Seating arrangements are also extendable and adaptable due to the advanced technology. So, that the people can take the full advantage of their leisure time.

I would be really happy to invite you to the inaugration of the building as you are contributing to the theatre and acting since childhood. Please accept our invitaion and regards.

I do not think of someone better than you for this event as your acting skills are remarkable and attention to details of every little scene is commendable. You can give motivation to the younger theatre artists from your own experience and encourage them to do acting more sincerely.

I look forward to hear from you soon with a positive reply. Thanks for your valuable time and consideration.

Warm regards,

Roop

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The response successfully addresses all parts of the task. You clearly cover the location and features of the new theatre, extend a direct invitation to Christine, and explain why she is the ideal person to open the building based on her long career and acting skills. A clear purpose and tone are maintained throughout the letter. While all prompt requirements are met, some ideas, such as the description of the theatre's facilities, could have been slightly more extended to fully reach the level above, as they currently lean toward general statements rather than deep elaboration. However, your position and purpose are completely clear from start to finish, ensuring a solid performance for this criterion.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a logical progression of ideas from the greeting through the details of the theatre, the invitation, and the reasoning behind choosing the actor. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct points, such as the theatre description in the second paragraph and the rationale for the invitation in the fourth paragraph. However, cohesion is at times mechanical or slightly faulty, such as the abrupt transition and sentence fragmentation seen in 'So, that the people can take the full advantage...' and 'So, that the people have easy access to it.' Improving how sentences link together smoothly without relying on repetitive connectors would elevate the cohesion of your writing.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'inauguration', 'adaptable', and 'commendable'. However, there are a few lexical errors and awkward collocations that place this response at the mid-range level, such as writing 'It would be really delighted' instead of 'delightful', using 'equipments' (as equipment is uncountable), and spelling 'inaugration' incorrectly. Word choice is generally understandable and does not impede communication, but greater precision in word forms and spelling accuracy will be necessary to achieve a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

Your writing displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating your ability to construct varied clauses, such as 'I do not think of someone better than you for this event as your acting skills are remarkable...' There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, including the unnecessary comma splits and fragments like 'So, that the people can take the full advantage...' and the preposition error in 'look forward to hear' instead of 'hearing'. Nonetheless, these errors are relatively infrequent and rarely impede communication, allowing the reader to follow your message without difficulty.
