Dear........,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Mr. Singh,
Please note that I am working for a New Era company as a junior artist. This company is doing musical shows in pan India and mostly in Mumbai. Our company hires a theatre to organise such musical events as & when suitable.
Recently, our company CEO has decided to buy our own theatre as this helps to do regular shows in our own premises rather than to hire one. The thetare is located in Vile Parle west on St. Anne road just oppoite to Mc Donlads outlet. This thetare has 150 seating capacity and is well equipped with latest music system.
In this regard, I would like to invite you for an opening of this brand new theatre which is planned for 20th October. I know you are busy and your presence will highlight this event since you are from same musical industry. Also, you can suggest/recommends if anything that we have missed out in constructing this theatre. We will not take much of your time though.
I would appreciate a line of confirmation so as to plan the other activities accordingly.
Thanking you.
Kind regards,
Kirti

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You successfully cover all parts of the prompt by providing details about the new theatre, issuing a clear invitation to the famous actor, and explaining why she or he would be a suitable person for the opening ceremony. The tone is appropriately polite for a formal letter. However, some aspects are more fully developed than others, which is typical of this level. For instance, while the location and equipment of the theatre are explained well, the explanation of why the actor is uniquely suited for the role is slightly simplistic, relying mainly on the general statement that they are from the same musical industry rather than expanding on specific achievements or appeal. To reach a higher level, you could further extend and develop your supporting ideas with more elaborate reasoning regarding the actor's specific connection to your company's vision.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
Your letter has a clear overall arrangement, and the information is logically sequenced from introducing the company and the new theatre to making the invitation and requesting a reply. You use basic paragraphing effectively to separate your introduction, the details of the venue, the invitation itself, and the closing remarks. Cohesive devices are generally used to guide the reader through the text, such as 'Recently', 'In this regard', and 'Also'. However, some of the referencing and connections between sentences feel a bit mechanical or simplistic. For instance, transitions between the venue description and the invitation could flow more naturally. To achieve a higher band, ensure that cohesive devices are used more flexibly and that relationships between ideas are signaled with greater sophistication.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully using functional terms related to business and events such as 'musical shows', 'junior artist', and 'brand new theatre'. You also attempt some less common vocabulary items. However, there are noticeable inaccuracies in word choice, collocation, and spelling that reflect this level. For example, expressions like 'doing musical shows in pan India' and 'buy our own theatre' are slightly unnatural, and there are specific spelling errors such as 'thetare' instead of 'theatre' and 'oppoite' instead of 'opposite'. Furthermore, 'suggest/recommends' contains a grammatical form error in vocabulary use. To improve, you should focus on more precise collocations, correct spelling, and refining your word choices to sound more natural and professional.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating control over basic structures and attempting more intricate constructions such as conditional and relative clauses, as seen in 'since you are from same musical industry' and 'as this helps to do regular shows'. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, such as missing articles ('from same musical industry' instead of 'from the same musical industry') and awkward preposition use in phrases like 'opening of this brand new theatre'. Fortunately, these errors rarely impede communication and your meaning remains clear throughout the response. To reach the next level, you need to produce a higher proportion of error-free sentences while increasing your command of complex grammatical structures and articles.
