Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Ranveer,
I hope this letter finds you well. My name is Rudresh Patel and I am an employee at PVR cinemas. It is my pleasure to inform you that we are opening a new theatre in Mumbai next week. We would like you to be the chief guest at the event and do the inaugration.
The theatre is first of a kind in India with six screens and amenities such as the recliner seats with heating option, massaging chairs and box seats which offers privacy for the customers. Initially, we are planning to run three shows per night which we plan to increase looking at the response.
Additionally, your presence at the opening ceremony will mark the beginning of a new era in the theatre experience as you have a great fan base. We would appreciate if you share your experience online on Instagram post or stories so that people can come visit us.
Thanking you,
Rudresh

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You successfully address all parts of the prompt, satisfying the requirement to provide information about the new theatre, invite the actor, and explain why he would be a suitable person for the opening. For instance, you mention details about the six screens and amenities like recliner seats, and you appropriately invite the actor to act as chief guest. However, some ideas show a slight tendency to be under-developed, which keeps this criterion balanced at the mid-point. While you mention that his presence will mark a new era due to his great fan base, this explanation could be expanded further with more specific reasoning regarding his connection to the entertainment industry or local audience to fully reach the higher band. All three bullet points are clearly covered, and the semi-formal tone required for a letter to a celebrity is appropriately maintained throughout the message.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
Your letter demonstrates a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. You make effective use of paragraphing, with each paragraph serving a distinct purpose: introducing the context and invitation, describing the theatre facilities, and explaining the reasoning behind the choice while requesting social media support. You use cohesive devices and referencing well, such as transitional markers like 'Additionally' and logical pronoun referencing ('The theatre', 'which we plan to increase'). While the paragraphing and progression are managed competently to meet the higher descriptor, a greater variety of cohesive devices could be incorporated to make the flow even more seamless and less reliant on straightforward connectors. Overall, the arrangement is coherent, and the information is easy to follow from start to finish.
Lexical Resource: Band 7.0
You display a sufficient range of vocabulary with some flexibility and precision, allowing you to discuss the entertainment venue and business plans effectively. You successfully attempt less common lexical items and phrases such as 'chief guest', 'opening ceremony', and 'fan base', which demonstrates an awareness of style and collocation suitable for a professional invitation. There are, however, a few minor slips in word choice and spelling, such as the misspelling of 'inaugration' (inauguration) and the slightly awkward phrasing 'first of a kind' instead of 'the first of its kind'. These minor inaccuracies do not impede communication at all and reflect a competent command of vocabulary that successfully serves the task purpose.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 7.0
Your response features a satisfactory mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating good control of grammar and punctuation. You successfully construct complex sentences containing relative clauses and adverbial modifiers, such as 'which offers privacy for the customers' and 'so that people can come visit us.' There are some minor grammatical errors present, such as the missing article in 'first of a kind' and the omission of the preposition 'to' in 'We would appreciate if you share' (which should be 'We would appreciate it if...'). Despite these occasional errors, your punctuation is generally sound, and the majority of your sentences are clear and well-formed, ensuring that meaning is never obscured and communication flows smoothly for the reader.
