Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Azlan,
I hope this letter finds you in good health. This is Samy Malik from Malkhan Entertainment Ltd. Our company runs many theatres countrywide, especially in urban areas. Recently, it is decided by the management to promote Artwork in rural areas. Subsequently, we are going to open a new theatre in a small town, Kasur. A variety of performances would be done at this theatre, but our emphasis is on the comedy performances.
Moving farword, an inauguration ceremony is being held on the opening day of the theatre, where many public figures belonging to social media, entertainment industry and local artists are being invited on the occasion. For that reason, we are formally inviting you on the event as our chief guest.
The foremost reason why we believe that you are the best public figure for the event becuase you are one of those figures who made themselves. Moreover, you started your career in the entertainment industry with theatre. We believe that you are the perfect role model for the local folks.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Regards,

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The response successfully addresses all parts of the task. You provide relevant information about the new theatre in Kasur and its emphasis on comedy performances, issue a clear and formal invitation to Azlan as the chief guest for the inauguration, and explain why he is a suitable candidate due to his background starting in theatre and self-made success. The tone is appropriate for a semi-formal/formal letter. However, some ideas remain slightly concise and could be further extended to reach the highest levels of development, particularly the explanation of his role and the details of the opening ceremony.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
There is a clear logical organisation and progression throughout the letter, with each paragraph serving a distinct purpose corresponding to the bullet points. You use a good range of cohesive devices and transitional phrases, such as 'Subsequently', 'Moving farword', and 'Moreover', to guide the reader smoothly from the introduction of the theatre to the invitation and the supporting rationale. Paragraphing is used logically and appropriately to separate the background, the event details, and the justification for the invite.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
Your vocabulary range is adequate to convey your message clearly and perform the task. You make successful attempts at less common vocabulary items and phrases, such as 'inauguration ceremony', 'chief guest', and 'public figures'. However, there are some minor lexical slips and typos, such as 'countrywide' and 'Moving farword' (forward), as well as slight awkwardness in phrasing like 'made themselves', which prevent the lexical score from being higher. Word choices are generally clear and do not impede communication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating relative clauses and conditional-style reasoning effectively. There is good control over punctuation and basic sentence structures, and frequent error-free sentences are present. Nonetheless, a few grammar and phrasing errors persist, such as 'Recently, it is decided by the management' (tense consistency/passive voice slip) and the missing verb/preposition in 'is becuase you are'. These minor inaccuracies mean you show part of the higher band's control while remaining firmly grounded at this level.
