Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response successfully addresses all parts of the task by inviting the actor, giving information about the new theatre, and explaining why the actor is a good choice. However, some ideas are more fully developed than others. For instance, the information about the theatre is clear, mentioning the 500 seats and location in Brampton, but the explanation regarding why he is a suitable person could be extended further. The tone is appropriate for a semi-formal request letter, and the purpose is clear throughout the text, showing aspects of higher band development while fulfilling the core requirements of this level.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear logical flow from the introduction to the invitation and reasons. Paragraphing is used to separate different points, such as background information and the actual invitation. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or slightly faulty, such as the abrupt transition using 'Although, Brampton is small city...' where punctuation and referencing could be smoother. Pronoun referencing is generally clear, but the overall progression between sentences occasionally feels disjointed, keeping the cohesion at a steady level.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The writer demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'opening ceremony', 'fan-base', and 'emotional bond'. There are some word-choice and spelling errors that do not impede communication, such as writing 'Aplha' instead of 'Alpha' and 'havev' instead of 'have', as well as awkward phrasing like 'large number of audience' instead of 'large audience'. Despite these occasional inaccuracies, the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the intended message effectively.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at relative clauses and conditional structures. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, such as 'invite you for an opening ceremony' instead of 'to', missing articles like 'is small city', and subject-verb agreement issues such as 'the club have'. However, these errors rarely impede communication and the structure allows the meaning to come across clearly, balancing error-free simple sentences with occasional faulty complex forms.
