Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir,

I am a big fan of yours, sir. I am the general manager of T-Series. I really want to open my own personal theatre, but I am not at that stage yet. However, the company I am currently working with is opening a new theatre, and I suggested your name for the grand opening.

The new venue is located near the lakeshore at Brant. Moreover, this place is perfect for the theatre because everything is nearby, so it will be easy to work. Our company is inviting you as a host for the grand opening of the new theatre. The reason our company chose you is that, among all others, you are very humble and nice to everyone. We even saw some of the reels where you are providing food and necessary things to poor people, and our eyes were on them. We are hoping that you will definitely come for the opening

Sincerely,

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You successfully addressed all parts of the letter prompt, covering the information about the new theatre, the formal invitation, and the reasons why the actor would be suitable. However, some aspects remain under-developed. While you mention that the venue is located near the lakeshore at Brant, the description lacks vivid detail. Similarly, your explanation of why the actor is a good choice focuses heavily on their charity work through social media reels rather than their professional suitability for opening a theatre. To reach a higher level, you need to extend and support your ideas with greater clarity and more relevant professional rationale, ensuring every bullet point is fully explored.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

Your letter maintains a coherent overall arrangement with a clear beginning and ending. You use basic paragraphing to separate your introduction, body points, and conclusion. However, cohesion at times feels a bit mechanical or loose. For instance, the transition from discussing the venue location to issuing the invitation relies on abrupt shifts, and referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the phrase 'our eyes were on them' referring to the reels. To achieve a higher score, you should ensure that cohesive devices are used more flexibly and that logical progression between sentences and paragraphs is smoother and more natural throughout the entire text.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You demonstrated an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common phrases such as 'grand opening' and 'general manager'. However, your word choice and phrasing often lean towards an informal, conversational tone rather than the polite, professional register expected in a formal letter to a celebrity. Phrases like 'big fan of yours, sir' and 'our eyes were on them' are too colloquial. There are also some minor limitations and slight inaccuracies in lexical control that prevent a higher score. To improve, focus on expanding your range of formal vocabulary and mastering precise collocations suited to professional correspondence.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

Your writing displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over basic structures. You successfully use present and past tenses, such as in 'the company I am currently working with is opening'. However, there are noticeable errors in grammar and punctuation, including awkward phrasing like 'it will be easy to work' and minor punctuation slips. Your attempts at complex structures occasionally result in awkward syntax. To reach the next level, you need to produce a higher frequency of error-free complex sentences and demonstrate greater precision in prepositions, article usage, and clause connection.
