Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response successfully addresses all parts of the task by giving information about the new theatre, inviting Mr. Holland to open it, and explaining why he is a suitable person for the role. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a public figure. However, some ideas are more fully developed than others; for instance, the explanation of why he is a good choice focuses heavily on his past work with Pixar, but could have been extended with more detail regarding his acting background and public appeal. The inclusion of specific details like the opening date of 25 October 2026 adds good context, showing clear intent to cover all required bullet points effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter maintains a coherent overall arrangement with a logical progression of ideas from the initial introduction and purpose of the letter, through to the venue details, the formal invitation, and finally the closing remarks. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct topics such as venue details and the reasons for the invitation. However, cohesion at times feels a bit mechanical, with simple transitional words and repetitive phrasing, such as 'I would like to invite you' appearing multiple times. Referencing is generally clear, but smoother linking devices between sentences would elevate the flow of the text further.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully conveying the intended message to the reader. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary items and industry-specific terms, such as 'luxury amenities', 'opening ceremony', and 'chief guest'. However, there are noticeable word choice and collocation inaccuracies, such as 'opened at the London city centre' instead of 'in', 'huge number of people' missing an article, and 'commence the theatre' where 'open' or 'launch' would be more natural. Spelling is mostly accurate, and these lexical slips do not impede overall communication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The writing demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses such as 'who has been the star of the play' and conditional-style time frames. There are some grammar and punctuation errors present, such as 'going to opened' instead of 'going to open', 'On the behalf our company' which misses a preposition, and 'actor eho' containing a typographical error. Preposition use within grammatical patterns also shows minor slips, such as 'since more than 3 years' instead of 'for more than 3 years'. Nevertheless, these errors are relatively infrequent and rarely impede communication.
