Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt by providing information about the new theatre, extending an invitation to the actor, and explaining why she or he would be a suitable person for the opening ceremony. The key bullet points are covered adequately, though some ideas lack full development. For instance, the description of the theatre could have included more vibrant details about its cultural significance. Additionally, it is important to note a negative point regarding the length requirement: the text contains 147 words, falling just short of the 150-word minimum specified for this task. To reach a higher level, all parts of the prompt must be slightly more expanded, and the minimum word count must be fully satisfied without exception.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The letter demonstrates a clear overall progression and coherent arrangement. The ideas are logically sequenced into appropriate paragraphs, moving smoothly from the introduction and details of the venue to the invitation itself and the reasoning behind choosing the recipient. Cohesive devices are used reasonably well, such as temporal markers and referencing phrases like 'This event will be held on', which guide the reader effortlessly through the text. To move beyond this band, referencing could be made even smoother and paragraph transitions slightly more sophisticated, ensuring that every cohesive link feels entirely natural and unobtrusive rather than occasionally mechanical.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully conveying the intended message to the reader. The writer attempts some less common lexical items, such as 'ceramony', 'admires', and 'memorable'. However, there are a few noticeable spelling and word-choice inaccuracies, such as misspelling 'ceremony' as 'ceramony', using 'receive a honour' instead of 'receive the honour', and writing 'thetre' instead of 'theatre'. These minor slips do not impede communication, but they prevent the writing from achieving a higher score. To improve, the writer should focus on precise word formation and careful proofreading to eliminate spelling errors and enhance collocation control.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The response displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating an attempt to use relative clauses and compound sentences, such as 'Our company launched this new theatre especially for the upcoming Punjabi movies. Which contains 500 seats...' There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, most notably the sentence fragment starting with 'Which contains', and minor preposition or article slips such as 'ideal person' missing the article 'an'. However, these grammatical errors rarely impede communication and the meaning remains clear throughout. To achieve a higher band, the writer must use complex structures with greater accuracy, ensuring that all dependent clauses are correctly attached and punctuation rules are strictly followed.
