Dear........,
Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Tim,
I am an employee at Max creations - the entertainment group I hope you are familiar with - and writing to you regarding a new theatre our business intends to open in the city. I am reaching out to you on behalf of Max creations and would love invite you to inaugurate the new project of ours.
Having been involved in the entertainment industry, Max creations has long been planning to construct a state-of-the-art theatre for the residents of our city, and here we are profoundly excited to announce that our new theatre is going to be open for public next month. The theatre is equipped with sophisticated cinema and screening instruments, and could accommodate around 300 people at a time. The building is a marvel of architecture itself and is designed by a renowned Malaysian architect Salman Ahmad. We have already been in dialogue with various production companies for reservation of live performances.
Having been informed about this splendid art center, I am pretty sure that you - as an artist yourself - would like to visit the place, and therefore, we at Max creations believe that who other than you would be a suitable choice to inaugurate this theatre.
You have been requested to cut the ribbon of this esteemed institution because of not only your contributions to the field or art, but also because of your active involvement in our city's social matters. Our ambitions at Max creations aligns well with your objectives and activities and we truly believe that we could collaborate on deeper level to deliver and an affordable entertainment which would also serve as a community center for our district. Please let me know when it would be good time for us to have an in-person meeting to discuss further.
Warm regards,
Nauman

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 8.0
The letter covers all three requirements well. You describe the theatre’s opening next month, its capacity, facilities and architect; you make a clear invitation to inaugurate it; and you explain the actor’s artistic contribution and community involvement as reasons for choosing him. These details make the invitation purposeful and well supported. The request to arrange a meeting also gives the letter a practical next step. To make the response even more complete, specify the opening date or what you would expect Tim to do at the event, and develop the proposed community collaboration with one concrete example. The purpose and tone remain clear throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter is organised in a clear progression: you introduce your company and purpose, describe the theatre, explain why Tim is suitable, and close with a request for a meeting. Paragraphing supports this sequence, and linking expressions such as “therefore” and “because of” help connect the invitation to its rationale. Some transitions and references are less smooth, however. “Having been informed about this splendid art center” sounds as though the reader has already received the information, although it is being presented in the letter. The final paragraph also combines the reason for the invitation, the company’s aims and a meeting request. A clearer transition and a separate closing paragraph would make the progression more effortless.
Lexical Resource: Band 7.0
You use a good range of vocabulary for a formal invitation, including “state-of-the-art,” “inaugurate,” “renowned,” “contributions” and “community center.” These choices help convey the theatre’s importance and the actor’s suitability. There is also some awareness of formal tone, although a few expressions are awkward or imprecise: “new project of ours” is less natural than a direct reference to the theatre, and “deliver an affordable entertainment” is not idiomatic. “Sophisticated cinema and screening instruments” is also an unclear description of the facilities. Aim for precise, natural collocations rather than adding formality for its own sake; this would make the vocabulary more flexible and consistently accurate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
You attempt a range of sentence forms, including the introductory phrase “Having been involved in the entertainment industry” and the longer sentence explaining why Tim is a suitable choice. Meaning is generally clear, but some grammatical errors remain. In “would love invite you,” the infinitive marker is missing; “who other than you would be” needs a different construction, such as “who better than you”; and “our ambitions … aligns” has a subject–verb agreement error. There are also article and structure problems in “for public,” “on deeper level,” and “deliver and an affordable entertainment.” These errors do not prevent understanding, but they limit accuracy. Check verb agreement, infinitives and articles, and divide the longest sentences to improve control.
