Student answer (Band 5.5)
Hello Mr. Showl,
I hope this letter finds you well. This is Aakansha Chauhan. I am writing this letter for a request to attend our theaters opening ceremony.
Me and my family have been admiring you and your acting skills since many years. This theater was a dream for our family, and now it is going to become our reality. Moreover, this is not only a theater it holds thousands of emotions and countless efforts. This would be an honor if you could launch our theater and spare some time to attend the ceremony.
It has always been a wish for our family that the theater has to be launched by an iconic person who belongs to acting industry. If you are availabe to attend the ceremony I can provide you the location and other required details.
We are looking forward to receive a positive response from your side. We would really appriciate your presence on our special day.
Warm regards,
Aakansha.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You make the central purpose clear by asking the actor to attend and launch the theatre, and you explain that your family admires his acting and wants an iconic figure from the acting industry to open it. However, the task is addressed only partially: the letter gives almost no information about the new theatre itself, such as its location, size, facilities, or programme. The reason he would be a suitable choice is also quite general and focuses mainly on his fame rather than a specific connection to the theatre or its audience. The invitation would be stronger if it clearly named the opening event and proposed a date or explained what role you hope he will take.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter has a clear overall arrangement: it opens with a greeting and purpose, develops the invitation and reason, then closes with a request for a response. Paragraph breaks help distinguish these stages, and linking expressions such as “Moreover” and “If” make relationships between ideas visible. Some connections are less smooth, however. The shift from your family’s admiration to the theatre being a family dream is understandable but not fully developed, while “If you are available” leads to details being offered without specifying what information is needed. The repeated references to “our family” also make the progression feel somewhat narrow. A clearer sequence—introducing the venue, making the invitation, then explaining the actor’s suitability—would improve cohesion.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a suitable range of expressions for a formal invitation, including “opening ceremony,” “iconic person,” and “positive response,” and the message remains understandable. There are also attempts at more expressive language, such as “holds thousands of emotions and countless efforts.” Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, including “theaters opening ceremony,” “launch our theater,” and “from your side.” Spelling errors such as “availabe” and “appriciate” also reduce accuracy. Aim for conventional, precise phrases in a professional letter—for example, “the theatre’s opening ceremony,” “officially open the theatre,” and “we would appreciate your presence.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple sentences and more complex forms, including “If you are availabe to attend the ceremony I can provide you…” and the relative clause in “a person who belongs to acting industry.” Most sentences communicate the intended meaning, so grammatical errors rarely prevent understanding. Some errors remain in sentence structure and grammatical patterns: “Me and my family have been admiring you” uses an incorrect subject form, “since many years” is not the correct time expression, and “the theater has to be launched” is awkwardly formed for the intended meaning. There are also missing articles in “belongs to acting industry” and punctuation is needed after the introductory “If” clause. Review subject pronouns, articles, and present-perfect time expressions.
