Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Mahira,
I hope this letter finds you well.
I'm writing this letter to update you regarding our new project in which we are going to open a theatre.
This theatre is situated in the middle of city where people from around the region can easily come and get entertained. The interior designing of this place is extremely remarkable and shows colours of the film world. Additionally, the seating in theatre is very comfortable, the halls are fully air conditioned. New 4D technology screens are installed with origional sound system that gives the feel of existing in scene while watching film or attending indoor concert.
There is also a coffee shop at the entrance of the theatre where people can get snacks and enjoy coffee before or after the film. The seating area in there is huge and with seating arrangment of around 200 people.
Since you have been working with us when the company was just a start up and we have seen eachother grow through time. We would like to formally invite you to celebrate with us the opening ceremony of the theatre and honour your presence at this moment.
You must be curious about the reason to invite you, here is one that we found you our loyal star as we both trusted eachother back in past and seen growth together in the entertainment market. Also you are about to release your movie, so we want the first show to be yours in our theatre.
I hope you will not let us down and will join us in the company's new beggining.
Looking forward to have you with us soon.
Best Regards,
Ranisa Ghafoor

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The letter addresses all three requirements: it describes the theatre, invites Mahira to the opening, and explains why she is suitable. Details such as the central location, 4D screens, coffee shop and planned first screening of her film make the invitation relevant. The reason based on her history with the company is also appropriate. This meets the task well, while some points are less fully developed: for example, the opening ceremony is mentioned without a date or other practical details, and the claim that she is a “loyal star” could be explained more specifically. The tone is generally warm and suitable, though “I hope you will not let us down” may sound pressuring rather than welcoming. A more polished invitation with a clear, positive closing would strengthen the response further.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter has a clear overall sequence: it introduces the project, describes the facilities, makes the invitation, and gives reasons for choosing the actor. Paragraph breaks help distinguish these stages, and phrases such as “Additionally” and “Since” guide the reader. However, some links feel mechanical or unclear. “You must be curious about the reason to invite you, here is one” joins two ideas awkwardly, while “Since you have been working with us…” is a sentence fragment because it does not complete the dependent clause. The theatre description also moves between facilities without a particularly clear grouping. Use complete sentences and organise the details into a concise description paragraph, followed by a distinct invitation and rationale, to make progression smoother.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The response uses an adequate range for describing a venue and making a formal invitation, including “interior designing,” “air conditioned,” “4D technology,” and “opening ceremony.” These choices communicate the main ideas, and the writer attempts more specific language rather than relying only on basic vocabulary. Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, however: “interior designing” would be better expressed as “interior design,” “shows colours of the film world” is unclear, and “the feel of existing in scene” does not express the intended immersive experience naturally. There are also spelling errors such as “origional,” “arrangment,” and “beggining.” More precise, conventional phrases would make the letter sound more fluent and professional.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
There is a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including the relative clause in “where people from around the region can easily come” and the reason introduced by “Since.” Most of the message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors affect clarity and control. “Since you have been working with us…” is incomplete as written, and “the halls are fully air conditioned” is joined to the preceding sentence with a comma rather than a full stop or conjunction. Other examples include “in middle of city,” which needs articles, and “we found you our loyal star,” where the sentence structure is faulty. Aim to make each clause complete, check articles and sentence boundaries, and simplify complex sentences when their structure becomes difficult to control.
