Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Mr. Salman Khan,

I am writing to invite you to open the new theatre by our entertainment company.

To explain this situation, my company ,DJ mix ,is opening a brand new theatre near to the city centre at downtown Toronto. The party is scheduled to commence at 12:00 p.m. on Saturaday.

I would like to invite you on the grand opening of this place because your presence will make this event even more special.

Furthermore, you are one of the most loved and followed actors by the people of all the age groups, especially children. It would be the best opportunity for us to advertise our new theatre. Apart from this, I have also plan one live performance by you and would be delighted if you could come.

I look forward to your prompt response.

Yours faithfully,

Pawandeep Kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address all three requirements: you describe the theatre’s location and opening time, invite Mr. Khan to the event, and explain that his popularity—particularly with children—would attract attention. The purpose is clear and relevant throughout. However, the theatre information is quite limited, and the proposed live performance is mentioned without explaining what it would involve. The reason that he is a suitable guest is also partly framed as an advertising benefit for the company, rather than developed as a personal or artistic connection. The response is 140 words, so it does not meet the 150-word minimum. Add a little more detail about the venue and event, and develop why his career or public image makes him an especially fitting choice.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter follows a sensible overall order: it introduces the invitation, gives event details, explains why the actor is wanted, and closes with a request for a response. Paragraphing helps distinguish the opening information from the reasons for inviting him. Linking expressions such as “Furthermore” and “Apart from this” make the relationship between ideas clear, although they can feel somewhat mechanical, and the second paragraph combines several different points. The phrase “To explain this situation” does not establish a particularly natural transition into the venue details. To improve progression, group the event information together, then give the invitation and reasons in a separate paragraph, using simpler links or clear references to connect them.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

Your vocabulary is adequate for the purpose and includes some suitable formal expressions, such as “grand opening,” “presence,” and “prompt response.” The reader can understand the invitation and the reasons for it. There are, however, some inaccurate or unnatural choices that limit precision: “invite you on the grand opening” and “one live performance by you” do not express the intended meaning naturally. “To explain this situation” is also an awkward phrase in this context. Spelling errors such as “Saturaday” and inconsistent capitalisation in “DJ mix” reduce accuracy. Aim for more natural collocations and check spelling and proper names carefully; this will make the letter sound more polished without requiring unusually advanced vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and more developed sentence forms, including the reason clause in “because your presence will make this event even more special” and the relative clause “actors by the people of all the age groups.” Most of the message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors are noticeable. For example, “I have also plan one live performance” needs a correctly formed verb phrase, and “near to the city centre at downtown Toronto” has an awkward prepositional construction. There are also punctuation and spacing issues around “my company ,DJ mix ,is.” Review verb forms, prepositions, and comma placement, then proofread each sentence. More accurate control of these patterns would strengthen the letter while preserving its clear meaning.
