Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5
The letter addresses all three requirements clearly: it describes the theatre’s location, capacity and facilities, invites Mr Khan to the opening, and explains his suitability through his talent and contribution to the industry. The invitation is specific, with a date and time, and the closing expresses a clear hope that he will accept. These relevant details and the consistently appropriate purpose make the response effective. To strengthen it further, develop the reason for choosing him beyond general praise such as “the most talented and famous actor in the country”; for example, connect his work or public profile to the theatre’s aims or audience. Also clarify the opening date, since “by next month” is less precise than the event date given later.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The information follows a clear, useful sequence: the purpose of the letter, details about the venue, the invitation, reasons for selecting the actor, and a courteous closing. Paragraphing supports this progression, and links such as “because” and “We sincerely hope” make the relationships between ideas easy to follow. Some cohesion is slightly repetitive or mechanical: “new theatre” and “opening ceremony” recur several times, while “which” is used to attach details in the first two paragraphs. More varied referencing and transitions would make the flow smoother. For example, after introducing the theatre, refer to it as “the venue” or “this new space,” and connect the actor’s contribution more directly to the event.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The response has adequate vocabulary for a formal invitation and includes relevant terms such as “opening ceremony,” “capacity,” “performances,” and “contribution to the entertainment industry.” These choices communicate the message clearly, and the range is sufficient for the task. However, some attempted expressions are inaccurate or unnatural, including “sitting capacity,” “advance light facilities,” and “Your presence will specially make this event.” There is also repetition of “popular place” and “theatre.” Choose more precise collocations, such as “seating capacity,” “advanced lighting facilities,” and “would make the occasion especially memorable.” Greater control of these combinations, alongside more varied vocabulary for the venue and event, would improve precision and naturalness.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
There is a mix of simple sentences and longer structures, including the relative clause in “our new theatre, which…” and the reason clause beginning “because.” The message remains understandable throughout. Some grammatical errors persist, however: “which will inaugurated” needs a passive form (“which will be inaugurated”); “We would extremely honored” needs “be”; and “people who loves” requires plural agreement (“people who love”). Other examples include “comfortable seat” and “Your sincerely,” where number and letter-closing forms need correction. Check verb forms, subject–verb agreement, articles and plurals carefully. More accurate control of these patterns, while retaining the current sentence variety, would make the letter more polished.
