Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear David,
I am writing to invite you to open the new theatre for an entertainment company.
The theatre will be build in city center because it is a commercial area and convenient for individuals to go there. The purpose of this new theatre will be to arrange more comedy shows for children because they really enjoy attending such events.
I cordially invite you to open the new theatre because you have a five year of experience in this field. Also you are expert in arranging events and put your best efforts in every possible way to make the event extraordinary for audience.
I would like to explain that you are the best person to open the theatre as you have good communication skills which includes listening to audience and respond them in a good way with some part of adding humor in it. Moreover, your main goal is to interact with children so their interest develop and they enjoy the show.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Yours sincerely,
Talliya Naz

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The letter addresses all three requirements: it describes the theatre’s central location and focus on comedy for children, makes a direct invitation, and explains why David is suitable by referring to his experience and ability to engage young audiences. The purpose and tone remain clear throughout, and the reasons are relevant and supported rather than merely listed. The explanation of the venue itself is less developed than the case for inviting him; for example, you could add a detail about its size, facilities, or opening event. Also make the invitation more specific by giving a proposed date or asking whether he is available. These additions would make the information and request more fully developed while preserving the clear focus of the letter.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The information follows a sensible sequence: the opening states the purpose, the next paragraph introduces the theatre, and the later paragraphs explain the invitation and David’s suitability. Paragraphing helps distinguish these points, and links such as “Also” and “Moreover” make the progression easy to follow. This is a coherent overall arrangement, with some effective progression towards the closing. However, the repeated use of “because” and additive links makes parts of the letter feel somewhat mechanical. The two paragraphs explaining why David is suitable also overlap. You could combine related reasons and use clearer referencing—for example, connect his experience directly to the children’s comedy programme—so the links feel more flexible and the ideas less repetitive.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the purpose and includes some appropriate formal expressions, such as “cordially invite” and “look forward to hearing from you.” The writer also uses relevant terms including “commercial area,” “communication skills,” and “audience.” However, several word choices and collocations are noticeably unnatural or imprecise, which limits the range and polish: “theatre will be build,” “a five year of experience,” and “make the event extraordinary for audience” do not sound idiomatic. “Arrange” is also repeated where more precise verbs could describe producing or hosting a show. Aim to learn vocabulary in natural combinations and choose words that fit the context; this will make the message more fluent without requiring unnecessarily complex language.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The letter includes both simple statements and attempts at more complex structures, including a reason clause (“because they really enjoy attending such events”) and a relative clause (“which includes listening to audience”). The meaning is generally recoverable, and the paragraphs are formed as complete sentences. However, errors occur across verb forms, articles, agreement, and sentence construction. For example, “will be build” should use the past participle after “will be,” while “you have a five year of experience” needs a different noun structure. In “skills which includes,” the verb does not agree with the plural noun, and “respond them” is missing a required preposition. Practise checking each sentence’s subject and verb, and review articles and verb patterns. More accurate control of these structures would make the message smoother.
