Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Ahlam,

I am writing to invite you to be the Chief Guest for the opening of our new theatre situated at downtown.

This theatre, a subsidiary of Marvel Communication, is conceptualized around a sole thing i.e. introducing new talents. As you may be aware we are famous for our larger than life shows conceived with renowned artists and crew, this venture is totally opposite of our basic ideology.

Therefore, we would like you to honor us with your presence at the opening ceremony. Currently, we are considering mid of March for event's slot. However, we are more than willing to accommodate the same around your availability.

Although, we are expecting several showbiz celebrities, we strongly believe that you are the most suitable person for our opening event. With your continuous efforts to introduce new talent and your advocacy for rights of crew staff, we would be glad to receive your acceptance.

We will be eagerly waiting to hear from you soon.

Best Regards,

Syed Shaneel Ahmed

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The letter addresses all three required points: it describes the theatre as a new venture focused on introducing talent, invites Ahlam to be chief guest, and explains her suitability through her work supporting emerging talent and crew rights. The invitation is clear and the proposed timing, with flexibility around her availability, makes it practical. These relevant ideas are extended with some explanation, particularly the contrast between the company’s usual productions and this new project. To make the rationale more fully developed, explain more specifically how her presence would inspire new performers or connect with the theatre’s mission. The description of the venue itself is also quite general, so one or two concrete details would strengthen the information provided.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The message follows a clear sequence: purpose, background about the theatre, invitation and timing, then the reason Ahlam is suitable and a closing. Paragraphing supports this progression, and linking expressions such as “Therefore,” “However,” and “Although” help connect the ideas. Some connections are less natural or precise, however. “Although” introduces an expected contrast, but the sentence’s main point is that Ahlam is the most suitable guest; a more direct transition would make the logic clearer. “The same” also has an unclear reference, and “this venture” could be identified more explicitly. More precise referencing and less formulaic transitions would make the cohesion smoother and more flexible.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.5

The letter uses an adequate range for a formal invitation, including phrases such as “Chief Guest,” “opening ceremony,” “renowned artists,” and “advocacy for rights.” These choices communicate the purpose and give the message a suitably respectful tone. There are also attempts at less common or business-like language, but some collocations are awkward or overly elaborate: “conceptualized around a sole thing,” “event’s slot,” and “accommodate the same” are not natural in this context. “Larger than life shows” may also be imprecise when describing the company’s productions. Prefer clear, conventional phrasing such as “designed to showcase emerging talent” and “schedule the event around your availability.” This would improve precision while retaining a formal register.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including the contrast in “Although we are expecting several showbiz celebrities…” and the relative clause “which is conceptualized around…”. Most sentences are understandable, and the message’s purpose remains clear. Some grammatical and punctuation issues remain. In “situated at downtown,” the preposition and article pattern is incorrect; use “situated downtown” or “in the downtown area.” The sentence beginning “As you may be aware” joins two independent clauses with only a comma, so it needs a full stop, semicolon, or conjunction. “Although” should not be followed by a comma before the main clause in “Although, we are expecting…”. Also, “for event’s slot” needs a determiner, such as “for the event.” More consistent control of these patterns would strengthen accuracy.
