Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Mr. Smith,
I am writing to invite you on the grand opening of a theatre soon, where I work in the management team.
The theatre is constructed for a considerable amount of audience to attend. It includes a large stage, around 3500 comfortable seats for spectators, as well as instillation of proper heat and air conditioning system, since individuals can enjoy the show in every season.
I would be grateful if you could come at the opening of this theatre, helding on next week on 22nd of October.
This theatre is the source of entertainment to the society, nevertheless you are the ideal of our artist, encouraging them to work hard so that success will run behind them.
I look forward to hearing a positive response from you.
Yours faithfully,
Ramneet Kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You cover the three requested points: you describe the theatre, invite Mr Smith to its opening, and explain that he could inspire artists. The details about 3,500 seats and climate control make the venue more concrete. However, the invitation is brief, and the reason he is suitable is expressed vaguely in “you are the ideal of our artist”; explain more specifically how his reputation or career connects with the theatre. The response also contains 133 words, below the required 150, so the letter needs further relevant development. Add practical details such as the event time, location, and what you hope he will do at the ceremony, while keeping the tone appropriately formal.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter has a clear overall arrangement: it opens with the purpose, gives information about the venue, makes the invitation, explains why the actor is suitable, and closes politely. Separate paragraphs help the reader follow these stages. Some connections between ideas are less effective, however. In “This theatre is the source of entertainment to the society, nevertheless you are the ideal…,” “nevertheless” signals contrast where the ideas are meant to support one another, making the relationship unclear. The invitation paragraph is also very short and could be developed with event details. Use straightforward links such as “As a well-known actor, you would…” to make the progression more natural and the reason for inviting him clearer.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use a reasonable range of vocabulary for a formal invitation, including “grand opening,” “spectators,” “comfortable seats,” and “positive response.” These choices communicate the main ideas, and the theatre description includes some specific terms. There are also several inaccurate or unnatural expressions that limit precision: “instillation” is not the intended word for equipment being fitted, “a considerable amount of audience” is an awkward collocation, and “the ideal of our artist” does not clearly express that the actor is a role model. “Helding” is also an incorrect word form. Aim for natural combinations such as “a large audience,” “installation of a heating and air-conditioning system,” and “an inspiration to local artists.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The letter includes both simple sentences and more developed structures, such as the theatre description with “as well as” and the clause beginning “since individuals can enjoy…”. Most of the message remains understandable, which is a strength. Some grammatical errors are present, though. In “invite you on the grand opening,” the preposition should be “to”; “helding on next week” has an incorrect verb form and awkward time construction; and “a large stage, around 3500 comfortable seats” needs a clearer grammatical link between the items. The phrase “proper heat and air conditioning system” also needs an article and more accurate number agreement. Proofread prepositions, articles, and verb forms, and vary sentence patterns while keeping each sentence controlled.
