Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir,
I am writing on behalf of star entertainment comapny to give you an invitation for opening a new theatre, which will be next month in the Town street.
New theatre was designed with a modern technology with a seating capacity of more than 1200 people. It is equppied with latest sound quality speakers, digital colorful lights, and comfortable seats. It also has a side walk to come in and go out without disturbing other people.
I would be gald if you can come to attend your opening ceremony on 14th October at 6 p.m. You would be invited to give a social speech about theatre journey and have a chance to meet your special gustes. I believe that your presence will make this little occasion quite memorable.
We think that you would be the best person for this occasion because you are also an actor, worked in 90s. You have seen journey of theatres and their impact on people and society. Therefore, we chose you to share your experience on that special day.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Yours sincerely,
Sandeep

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three requirements: you describe the theatre’s capacity and facilities, invite the actor to the opening on 14 October, and explain the relevance of their acting experience. The purpose is clear and the details make the invitation usable. The explanation of why this particular actor is suitable is relevant, but it is less fully developed than the theatre description: “you are also an actor, worked in 90s” is broad, and the reference to their experience could be linked more specifically to their career or influence. The invitation would also sound more direct and polished if you clearly asked the recipient to perform the opening ceremony. More developed, specific support for the choice of guest would strengthen the letter.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall progression: the opening states its purpose, the next paragraph describes the venue, and the following paragraphs make the invitation and justify it. Paragraphing is appropriate, and phrases such as “Therefore” and “I look forward to hearing from you” help guide the reader. Some connections are less smooth or precise, however. For example, “You would be invited to give a social speech” does not clearly connect the speech to the opening event, and “your special gustes” leaves the reference unclear. The sequence of information is sound, but more explicit links between the actor’s experience and the theatre’s aims would make the progression more cohesive and less reliant on general statements.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough vocabulary to communicate the venue’s features and the formal purpose of the letter, including “seating capacity,” “sound quality,” and “memorable.” There are also attempts at more specific description, such as “digital colorful lights.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, which limits precision: “give you an invitation,” “side walk,” and “social speech” do not express the intended meanings naturally. Spelling errors such as “comapny,” “equppied,” “gald,” and “gustes” are noticeable. These do not prevent the reader from understanding the main message, but careful proofreading and learning common formal-letter collocations would make the vocabulary more accurate and appropriate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The letter includes a mix of simple sentences and more developed structures, including the relative clause “which will be next month” and the reason introduced by “because.” Most ideas remain understandable, and errors rarely obstruct the message. Some grammatical inaccuracies persist, particularly with articles, verb forms, and sentence construction. For example, “New theatre was designed” needs an article, while “you are also an actor, worked in 90s” combines verb forms without a clear grammatical link. “I would be gald if you can come” also shifts awkwardly between conditional and present forms. Using a consistent conditional form and checking articles and complete clauses would improve accuracy while preserving the range you already attempt.
