Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Ranveer Singh,
I am writing this on behalf of Sun entertainment company to cordially invite you as the chief guest for the opening ceremony of our new theatre at Landsdowne Avenue, Toronto ON on 12th December 2026.
The theatre, named the Patel Stage, has a capacity of 600 people and featuring modern lightings, advanced seating arrangements along with JBL series sound system. Our theatre will host a variety of events including plays, musical and comedy shows. Our main aim is to support the local artists with an ability to entertain the public.
Therefore, we would be pleased if will be able to attend this event and officially inaugrate the theatre. People from backgrounds like journalists, local politicians and community members are attending the ceremony.
I believe that you would be a perfect choice for the occasion due to your fame and the ability to inspire millions of youngsters. Your presence will aspire considerable attention to those willing to pursue their dreams and attain success.
Yours sincerely,
Devanshi Patel

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5
The letter addresses all three requirements clearly: it describes the Patel Stage, invites Ranveer Singh to inaugurate it, and explains his suitability by referring to his fame and ability to inspire young people. Details such as the 600-seat capacity, planned events, and local artists give the invitation a clear purpose. The reason for choosing him is relevant, though it is more general than the theatre information; explaining how his career or public profile connects specifically with the theatre’s support for local artists would develop this point further. The invitation is also courteous and direct. To strengthen the response, make the event arrangements more complete—for example, indicate whether you expect him to give a short speech or attend a reception.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The information is arranged in a clear sequence: the opening paragraph introduces the invitation, the next describes the venue, and the final paragraphs explain the event and the actor’s suitability. This gives the reader a logical progression and makes the purpose easy to follow. Linking expressions such as “Therefore” and “I believe” help connect the ideas, although “Therefore” does not express a particularly clear cause-and-effect relationship in this context. The paragraphs are appropriately focused, but the transition from the theatre’s community aims to the guest invitation could be smoother. A more direct link, such as explaining that his presence would draw attention to local performers, would improve cohesion and connect the letter’s main points.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.5
The response uses a suitable range of formal and event-related vocabulary, including “cordially invite,” “opening ceremony,” “capacity,” and “community members.” These choices communicate the purpose effectively, and there are attempts at less common phrasing. However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural: “aspire considerable attention” does not convey the intended meaning, and “advanced seating arrangements” is vague. There are also spelling errors in “inaugrate” and “lightings.” These do not prevent understanding, but they limit the precision and naturalness of the language. Choose familiar collocations carefully and check spelling; for example, “attract considerable attention” and “modern lighting” would be more idiomatic.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
The letter includes both simple statements and more developed sentence forms, such as the sentence describing the theatre’s events and its aim to support local artists. Meaning remains clear throughout, but some grammatical errors reduce accuracy. In “has a capacity of 600 people and featuring,” the verb forms do not match; use “has a capacity of 600 people and features.” The invitation sentence, “if will be able to attend,” is missing a subject and needs a conditional form such as “if you were able to attend.” The phrase “with an ability to entertain” also needs a clearer grammatical construction, such as “so they can entertain the public.” More consistent control of verb forms and complete clauses would make the letter more polished.
