Dear........,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Mr Kumar,
I am writing to express my desire to invite you to the auspicious occasion of the opening of a new theatre for our entertainment company. It is located at Film City Centre in Navi Mumbai. We have been shifting our company to this new location, with extensive setup, a creative background and numerous background sets available for all kinds of shoots and dramas to be filmed.
The opening ceremony is scheduled for 11 AM on Sunday, 22nd October, 2026. Kindly accept my warm invitation to visit the venue on this red letter day for the auspicious inauguration ceremony. Your presence will make the event unforgettable, and we believe you will prove to be a lucky charm for us.
Our Company has been supporting young talent in the industry. Many of our theatre artists have been given a golden opportunity to start their careers by debuting in your films. You have been encouraging these youngsters by providing fair opportunities and proving that hard work always pays off.
I strongly believe you will consider our invitation and confirm your visit to join us for this special day with us. I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Warm Regards,
Yours faithfully,
Naval.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three requirements: you describe the venue and its facilities, invite Mr Kumar to the opening, and explain his connection to emerging performers. The date and time make the invitation concrete, while the reference to artists debuting in his films gives a relevant reason for choosing him. However, the theatre itself is described mainly through its location and production facilities; a little more about its purpose or audience would make this information fuller. The reason he would be a suitable person is also somewhat general, and the request to formally open the theatre could be stated more directly. The response is relevant and complete overall, with some points developed more fully than others.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall arrangement: the first paragraph introduces the theatre, the second gives the invitation details, and the third explains Mr Kumar’s suitability. This progression helps the reader follow the purpose, and the closing is appropriate. Some linking and reference are less controlled, however. For example, “this red letter day” and “the auspicious inauguration ceremony” repeat the same idea without adding information, while “join us for this special day with us” is repetitive. The transition from the company’s support for young talent to the actor’s suitability is logical, but could be made more explicit. More concise linking and less repetition would make the cohesion smoother and less noticeable.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.5
You use an adequate range of vocabulary and make attempts at more formal or less common expressions, including “extensive setup,” “debuting,” and “fair opportunities.” These choices help convey the event’s professional context. Some expressions are not fully natural or precise: “auspicious occasion” and “lucky charm” make the invitation sound overly ceremonial, while “creative background” is unclear in this context. “Numerous background sets available for all kinds of shoots and dramas to be filmed” is also wordy and imprecise. Aim for natural collocations suited to a formal invitation, such as describing the theatre’s facilities plainly and explaining the actor’s influence on young performers with precise wording.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
The letter includes a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, and most ideas remain clear. For instance, “Many of our theatre artists have been given a golden opportunity to start their careers by debuting in your films” uses a passive construction and an infinitive phrase effectively. Some grammatical choices are less controlled. “We have been shifting our company to this new location” uses a tense that suggests the move is still ongoing; “we have recently moved” may better express a completed relocation. In “I look forward to hearing from you soon,” the grammar is accurate, but the earlier phrase “confirm your visit to join us for this special day with us” has an awkward sentence structure and repeated wording. Review tense choices and simplify crowded constructions.
