Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Amitabh Bachan Sir,

I am the Director Manager of the Gulshan entertainment company. We are going to open a new theatre soon in Mumbai. We would love to invite you as a special guest to open are new theatre and to get your blessings.

Our company has almost a theatre almost in every province of India. The new theatre would have a good impact on the society because of two main reasons. First, it will be a source of entertainment for locals and it will provide a employement oppotunity to our youngsters. Secondly, CEO of the company has decided to donate 5% of the income to the children hospital.

We would like to request you please accept our invitation to open the new theatre with us. Ceremony will held on 2nd November on Sunday at Zohobeach Mumbai.

CEO of the company has made this decision to invite you on our special day because you have spent almost 50 years of your life to entertain the whole nation with your blockbuster movies.

We are so excited to see you Sir, please let us know if you are available on that day.

Your Sincerely,

Director Manager,

Raj

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The letter addresses all three requirements: it gives information about the theatre and company, makes a clear invitation, and explains why Amitabh Bachchan is suitable by referring to his long career entertaining the nation. The donation to a children’s hospital and the employment opportunities also add relevant context. The purpose remains clear throughout, and the invitation is appropriately direct. To make the response more fully developed, explain a little more about the theatre itself—for example, its size, facilities, or the kind of performances it will host. The reason for choosing the actor is relevant but could be linked more explicitly to the theatre’s aims or its local audience. A more polished, respectful invitation would also strengthen the letter’s impact.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The information is arranged in a generally logical sequence: the opening introduces the company and theatre, the next paragraph gives background, and later paragraphs make the invitation and explain the choice of guest. Paragraphing helps the reader follow the main points, and signposts such as “First” and “Secondly” make the supporting information easy to identify. However, some links feel mechanical, and the repeated reference to the “new theatre” does not always create smooth progression. The sentence about the CEO’s decision appears after the ceremony details, although it would connect more naturally to the invitation. Improve cohesion by grouping related details together and using clearer references, so each paragraph develops one purpose without abrupt shifts.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the main message, and phrases such as “special guest,” “source of entertainment,” and “blockbuster movies” suit the topic. There are also attempts at more formal language, including “request” and “donate.” However, several noticeable spelling and word-choice problems reduce precision, including “Bachan,” “employement,” “oppotunity,” and “are new theatre.” Some expressions are awkward or repetitive, such as “almost a theatre almost in every province” and “get your blessings.” Aim for accurate spelling and more natural collocations, particularly in a formal invitation. A wider range of precise terms for the venue, opening ceremony, and the actor’s contribution would make the letter sound more fluent and professional.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response uses a mixture of short statements and some longer sentences, including the explanation beginning “because you have spent almost 50 years…”. The main message is usually understandable, but grammatical control is uneven, and errors occur in several sentence patterns. For example, “We would love to invite you … and to get your blessings” has an unclear parallel construction, while “Ceremony will held” is missing the auxiliary verb needed for the passive form. “CEO of the company has decided” also needs an article or possessive determiner, and “a employement oppotunity” shows an article-form mismatch. Practise accurate articles, auxiliaries, and parallel structures, then proofread each sentence. More varied complex sentences would help, provided they remain controlled.
