Student answer (Band 5.5)

Dear Mr. Akshay

I am writing to invite you on my upcoming function where I am going to open a new theater in city of Vadodara. Since two years me and my collegues are planning for this theater to be open in my city as in Vadodara there are very limited amount of theater are.

This theater is featuring very unique interior design as well as the technology has been used. In past we had projector based screen theater which now we completely transformed into new one. Our new theater has laser based projection which gives sharp image processing and clearity of videos. In add to it we launched our own modified sound system which will enhance the viewing experience of theather to audiances.

As you are very famous in theater I would like to call you on this special day to be present on my inaugration day. We are excited for this day as our theater is getting new name which is Inovation multiplex. I would like to disclose this name to people and be the part of our happiness.

I look forward from hearing to you and eagerly waiting for your message.

Yours faithfullly,

Harsh

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You cover the main purpose of the letter: you describe the theatre’s updated projection and sound systems, invite Mr Akshay to attend its inauguration, and explain that his fame in theatre makes him a suitable guest. These details are relevant, but the invitation is not fully clear: “to be present” does not explicitly ask him to perform the opening, and the reason he would be a good person is only briefly stated. The opening information is also somewhat unclear, particularly “upcoming function” and the plan to open the theatre. Make the request direct and develop the actor’s connection to the venue—for example, explain how his career could inspire local audiences. A more complete, specific invitation would address the task more fully.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter has a clear overall arrangement: it introduces the purpose, gives information about the theatre, makes the invitation, and closes politely. Paragraphing helps the reader follow these stages, and phrases such as “In addition to it” attempt to connect related details. However, some links are awkward or unclear, including “Since two years me and my colleagues are planning” and “I would like to disclose this name to people,” which makes the progression less smooth. The final paragraph also shifts from inviting the actor to announcing the theatre’s name without clearly connecting the ideas. Use more natural transitions and make references explicit—for instance, explain how the actor’s presence would help introduce the new venue to the public.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “interior design,” “laser based projection,” “sound system,” and “viewing experience.” These choices communicate the theatre’s features, and “inauguration” is an appropriate formal term for the event. However, several word choices, collocations, and spelling errors reduce precision: “upcoming function,” “limited amount of theater are,” “clearity,” and “audiances” are either unnatural or inaccurate. “Famous in theater” also does not express the actor’s professional standing naturally. Aim for accurate, conventional phrases and check spelling carefully. A more precise range would help the letter sound professional and make the invitation more persuasive.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response includes both simple statements and attempts at longer structures, such as “Since two years me and my colleagues are planning for this theater to be open in my city.” However, control is inconsistent, and errors in tense, agreement, articles, and sentence construction sometimes make the message difficult to follow. For example, “Since two years” needs a different time construction, while “there are very limited amount of theater are” has faulty agreement and structure. “I look forward from hearing to you” also uses an incorrect grammatical pattern. Practise forming accurate sentences with time expressions, countable nouns, and standard verb patterns. Shorter, well-controlled sentences would improve clarity while you build confidence with complex forms.
