Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir,

I am working in an entertainment company that plans to open a new theatre on Nov1, 2026 and for the grand opening of our new theatre, I wish to invite you as a chief guest.

The location of this theatre is going to be the city-centre mall, and we have added new features to our theatre to make it more attractive. We are planning to do the opening ceremony at 10 am sharp. Firstly, we will do a prayer, and after that, Holi food will be distributed among all the people. There will be food stalls that you can enjoy, and many people will be there only to meet you.

You are my role model because I always get motivation from you to work hard in my life. Therefore, I believe that you are the right person for this occasion.

I hope that you will accept my invitation and come there to give me your blessings!

Your loving fan,

Sarbjeet Kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You cover all three requested points: you describe the theatre’s location and opening arrangements, invite the actor to attend as “chief guest,” and explain that the actor is your role model. These details make the purpose clear and relevant. However, the information about the venue and ceremony is more developed than the explanation of why this particular actor would be a suitable person to open it; the personal admiration is clear, but its connection to the theatre or the actor’s wider contribution could be explained further. The invitation would also be more complete if you specified what you hope the actor will do during the opening, such as formally inaugurating the venue or giving a short address. Overall, the task is addressed, though some ideas need fuller development.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter is arranged in a clear sequence: the opening paragraph introduces the invitation, the next gives event details, and the final paragraph explains your admiration and closes politely. This paragraphing helps the reader follow the purpose. You also use linking expressions such as “Firstly,” “after that,” and “Therefore” to show relationships between ideas. At times, however, the event details read like a list, and “many people will be there only to meet you” is not smoothly connected to the preceding information about food stalls. The progression would feel more natural if you grouped the ceremony schedule and guest activities more deliberately, and used a few more varied links rather than relying mainly on sequence markers.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

Your vocabulary is adequate for a formal invitation and includes relevant expressions such as “grand opening,” “opening ceremony,” and “role model.” The reader can understand the event and your reasons for inviting the actor. Some choices are less natural or precise, however: “Holi food” is unclear in this context, “get motivation from you” is an awkward collocation, and “give me your blessings” sounds overly personal for an invitation from a company. “Chief guest” is understandable, but a more specific description of the actor’s role would strengthen the letter. Aim to choose expressions that suit a professional event and make the intended meaning unmistakable. These improvements would add precision while retaining your warm tone.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including the relative clause in “a theatre that plans to open” and the reason-result structure beginning “Therefore.” Most sentences communicate the intended meaning, and the event details are generally easy to follow. Some grammatical and punctuation issues remain. For example, “I am working in an entertainment company that plans to open” would be more naturally expressed with a present simple form for an ongoing role, and the long opening sentence would benefit from clearer punctuation or division. In “I hope that you will accept my invitation and come there,” the reference to the venue is not expressed naturally. Review tense choices, sentence boundaries, and pronoun/reference clarity to make the letter more controlled.
