Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir,
I am writing on behalf of entertainment company called "let's entertain" to invite you for the opening ceremony of new theatre which is soon to be opened.
This is one of the biggest theatre because it has the capacity of almost one thousand people and all the seats have comfortable back seating which provide comfort. All the screens are of high quality and the sound system is one of the unique because it has echo system which is pleasant to ears.
I therefore, request you to join the opening ceremony as a chief guest and cut the tape.
In my opinion, you will be the most appropriate person to embark this new journey of our theatre, because you are one of the top actor of our country and your presence will pull a large crowd, which will be helpful in the promotion of this new theatre.
I am looking forward to a positive response from you to join our opening ceremony and make it successful.
Yours sincerely,
Asad

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The letter addresses all three requirements: it describes the theatre’s capacity and facilities, invites the actor to attend as chief guest and open it, and explains that their reputation could attract a large audience. The purpose is clear throughout, and the reason for choosing the actor is relevant and supported. The description of the venue is more specific than a generic invitation, while the explanation of the actor’s suitability is clear but somewhat brief; it could be developed by linking their career or public influence more directly to the theatre’s aims. Overall, the response fulfils the task effectively, with some room to extend one of its supporting ideas and make the invitation more polished and personal.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The information follows a clear sequence: the writer introduces the purpose, describes the theatre, makes the invitation, explains the actor’s suitability, and closes with a request for a reply. Paragraph breaks help distinguish these stages, and linking expressions such as “therefore” and “In my opinion” make the relationships between ideas understandable. Some transitions feel slightly formulaic, and the theatre description combines several details in one paragraph without much development. The closing sentence also repeats the invitation’s purpose rather than adding a distinct final note. To strengthen the flow further, use more natural transitions and ensure each paragraph has a clear focus, while retaining this logical overall progression.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the purpose and includes relevant terms such as “opening ceremony,” “capacity,” “sound system,” and “promotion.” The writer also attempts more specific expressions, including “chief guest” and “pull a large crowd,” but some choices are inaccurate or unnatural in this context. For example, “embark this new journey” does not fit naturally with opening a theatre, and “echo system” may not clearly describe the sound equipment intended. Repetition of “opening ceremony” and “new theatre” also limits flexibility. More precise collocations and a slightly wider range of formal invitation language would make the letter sound more natural and professional.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The response uses a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including a reason clause with “because” and a relative clause describing the seats. Meaning remains clear, but some grammatical errors occur. In “on behalf of entertainment company,” an article is needed before “entertainment company”; “theatre which is soon to be opened” would be more naturally formed as “theatre, which will open soon.” There are also agreement and article issues in “one of the biggest theatre” and “one of the top actor,” where plural nouns are required. The sentence beginning “I therefore, request” has misplaced punctuation. Review articles, plural forms after “one of the,” and punctuation around introductory adverbs to improve accuracy.
