Student answer (Band 6.5)

sir,

I am writing to invite you to the opening ceremony of our newly constructed theatre.

Regarding the event, I would like to mention That, it has been scheduled for the 25th of November 2026 at 10:00 am sharp.

Moreover, this newly built venue is designed for 2000 people to be seated comfortably at the time of the event, along with a sound system installed in every single corner; due to this, viewers experience great sound. Furthermore, more than ten rooms are being specially developed for artists

Furthermore, I believe that you would be the ideal person to inaugurate the theatre because of your remarkable achievements and contribution to the community. Your presence would inspire young people and encourage them to participate in cultural activities. Moreover, it would make this special occasion more memorable for everyone attending the event.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address the main purpose clearly by inviting the actor to the opening and explaining why their presence would be valuable: their achievements and community contribution could inspire young people. You also provide relevant details about the venue, including its 2,000-person capacity, sound system and artist rooms. These points cover all three task requirements, but the theatre information is more developed than the invitation itself: the actor is not directly asked to perform a specific opening role beyond the general invitation to attend the ceremony. The reason for choosing this person is relevant but could be more specific to their career. The response is also 11 words below the required minimum, so adding a little detail would help develop the ideas more fully and meet the task requirement.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The information follows a generally sensible order: you introduce the purpose, describe the event and venue, then explain why the actor would be suitable. Linking expressions such as “Moreover” and “Furthermore” help signal additions, and the message remains understandable. However, these connectors are repeated and sometimes make the progression feel mechanical. The venue details and the explanation of the actor’s suitability would be clearer as separate, well-developed paragraphs. There is also an unintended break after “artists,” which interrupts the flow before the next point. To improve, use a conventional letter structure with a greeting, purpose, event details, invitation and closing, and vary linking methods rather than relying on the same additive words.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.5

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for a formal invitation, including “opening ceremony,” “newly constructed theatre,” “inaugurate,” and “remarkable achievements.” These choices communicate the purpose and the venue details clearly, and the more formal terms show some ambition. At times, however, phrasing is less natural or precise: “for 2000 people to be seated comfortably” is wordy, while “viewers experience great sound” is a broad, informal description. “Rooms are being specially developed for artists” is also unclear about their intended use. Aim for more natural collocations and precise descriptions of facilities, and avoid repeating general terms such as “Moreover” and “Furthermore.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of sentence forms, including a complex sentence explaining why the actor would be suitable: “because of your remarkable achievements and contribution to the community.” Most of the message is understandable, and errors do not prevent the reader from following the invitation. Some grammatical and punctuation problems remain. In “I would like to mention That, it has been scheduled,” the capitalisation and comma placement are incorrect, and the clause is awkwardly joined. The sentence beginning “Moreover, this newly built venue…” is long and combines several ideas with a semicolon and “due to this,” making its structure difficult to control. Use shorter sentences where needed, check punctuation around clauses, and maintain consistent capitalisation.
