Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The letter gives relevant information about the theatre, including its location, opening date, seating capacity and facilities, and it clearly invites the actor to attend and cut the ribbon. However, the task is only partly fulfilled because the reason this particular actor would be a good choice is not explained. The invitation also lacks some practical detail, such as how the actor’s role would fit into the ceremony. The description of the seating is difficult to follow, so the theatre’s features are not always communicated clearly. To strengthen the response, explain the actor’s connection to the company, local audience or performing arts, and present the theatre information in clearer, more focused sentences.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a recognisable structure: the opening paragraph makes the invitation, the next provides background about the theatre, and the final paragraph mentions expenses and closes politely. This clear paragraphing and overall sequence support the reader. Linking phrases such as “To provide you with some background” also help signal the purpose of the next paragraph. However, the progression within the theatre-description paragraph becomes less clear, particularly when the details about rooms, backstage facilities, convertible seats and the intended age group are combined. The closing moves quickly from expenses to thanks without a clear request for a reply. Use shorter, more logically ordered sentences and a direct closing question to make the organisation more consistently smooth.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The response uses a range of task-related vocabulary, including “ribbon cutting,” “accommodation expenses,” “seating,” and “4D theatre,” so the main purpose is generally understandable. There are also attempts at more specific expressions, such as “chief guest” and “backstage performance facility.” However, several inaccurate word choices and spelling errors reduce precision, including “put some light with your speech,” “occassion,” “chieft guest,” and “semi beds.” Some phrases are also unnatural, such as “on our new theatre’s opening” and “seating of 700 audience.” Choose conventional collocations for a formal invitation and check spelling carefully. More precise wording would make the theatre’s features and the actor’s role easier to understand.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The letter includes both simple statements and attempts at longer structures, for example, “To provide you with some background, this is the first ever 4D theatre…” This shows some range, and the main message remains understandable. However, errors occur in sentence construction and grammatical forms. In “I am writing this letter on the behalf,” the article is unnecessary; “the ceremony … is held” does not use the appropriate future form for a planned event; and “all the seats can convereted” is missing the passive auxiliary and correct verb form. The sentence beginning “So that people can enjoy…” is a fragment, while “i would like to look forward” combines incompatible constructions. Practise accurate future and passive forms, and ensure each sentence has a complete main clause.
