Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Ravi,

I am writng this letter to invite you to inaugurate a new theatre which is going to open in Punjab state by my entertainment company.

My company has planned to open a new theatre naming it PVR Cinemas in the city Jagraon as they don't have one there. It would be easy for city people to watch movies locally when they have theatre rather than travelling to different city. This theatre is a two-storey building built in 3500 sq feet area. Additionally, theatre will have a food court too which will be upstairs.

We will be honoured and pleased to have you present at the inauguration ceremony. We feel your presence will make this ocassion more special as you are very famous among the society and people will love to see you at theatre. Moreover, people will cherish this moment with you throughout their life.

We thought you would be a perfect person to open this theatre as your journey in the bollywood industry inspires a lot.People admire your struggle and success like how a kid from a middle class family has become so famous in the world. Your early days of working 16 hours during the day stories inspires people very much. Further, everyone says "He is so famous and still down to earth". Overall, people really loves you and will be happy to welcome you.

I hope you take off some time from your buzy schedule and accept our invitation. Looking forward to welcome you.

Yours truly,

Pia

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

You address all three points clearly: you describe the theatre’s location, size and food court, make a direct invitation, and explain Ravi’s appeal through his career and personal story. The reasons for choosing him are relevant and supported, especially the contrast between his modest background and success. The letter also maintains an appropriate, respectful purpose throughout. Some details are broad or could be more fully developed: for example, “people will love to see you” and “people really loves you” repeat the general idea of his popularity rather than explaining specifically how his presence would connect with the local community. A little more precision about the opening event would make the invitation and supporting details even stronger.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall progression: the theatre is introduced first, the invitation follows, and the final main paragraph explains why Ravi is suitable. Separate paragraphs help the reader follow these functions, and linking expressions such as “Additionally,” “Moreover,” and “Further” show an effort to connect ideas. This is a coherent arrangement, though some connections feel mechanical or repetitive, particularly the repeated references to people’s admiration and happiness. The shift from the theatre’s facilities to the invitation is understandable but could be made more smoothly. In the closing, “I hope you take off some time” and “Looking forward to welcome you” are understandable, but a more complete, polished closing sentence would strengthen the letter’s flow.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the purpose, including “inaugurate,” “inauguration ceremony,” “cherish,” and “down to earth.” These choices help convey respect and enthusiasm, and the meaning remains clear. However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “theatre naming it PVR Cinemas,” “famous among the society,” and “welcome you at theatre.” There are also spelling errors, including “writng,” “ocassion,” and “buzy,” which reduce accuracy. Repeated general terms such as “people,” “famous,” and “happy” limit flexibility. Aim for more natural phrases and check spelling carefully; for example, describe the venue as “named PVR Cinemas” and say Ravi is “widely admired by the public.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and more complex sentences, including a reason clause (“as they don't have one there”) and a comparison (“rather than travelling to different city”). The message is generally understandable, but some grammatical errors recur and occasionally make sentences less smooth. Examples include “in Punjab state” and “in the city Jagraon,” missing or incorrect articles, and agreement errors in “stories inspires” and “people really loves you.” The final phrase “Looking forward to welcome you” also needs a different verb pattern. Work on articles, subject–verb agreement, and infinitive or gerund forms, while keeping the useful variety of sentence structures you already attempt. Proofreading sentence endings and punctuation would also improve control.
