Student answer (Band 7.0)

Dear Yami Gautam,

I am writing this letter with regards to inviting you to the opening of a brand new theater in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh on 31st of July.

I would like to inform you that our company is going to open a cineplex theater in Shimla next month, which would be the first theater in Himachal with the capacity of 150 people at a time.

This cinema hall will include four setting sections along with the facility of children's indoor playground. Moreover, visitors will be able to enjoy HDR movies through complementary high resolution dark glasses. Company will also offer a huge food-court on the location.

We would be grateful if you would attend this opening ceremony as our chief guest. This event will last for about 2 hours and guests will have the chance to meet and greet with such a great personality.

As we all know that you originally belong from Himachal Pradesh, it will give all the attendees a sense of familiarity and you could also interact with the community easily.

Kindly let me know if you want any further details regarding the venue. Thank you for your time and consideration. I will look forward to your response.

Yours sincerely

Dany

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5

The letter addresses all three requirements clearly: it describes the theatre and its facilities, invites Yami Gautam to attend as chief guest, and explains her connection to Himachal Pradesh as a reason she would be suitable. Details such as the 150-person capacity, children’s play area and opening date make the invitation specific. The explanation of her suitability is relevant, though it is less developed than the theatre description; you could explain more directly how her public profile or career might inspire local audiences. The purpose and polite tone remain clear throughout. To strengthen the response further, develop the personal reason for choosing her and make the invitation details, such as the venue or expected role, more precise.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The information follows a clear sequence: the opening and theatre are introduced first, facilities are described next, and the invitation and reason for choosing the actor follow. Paragraphing helps distinguish these functions, while phrases such as “Moreover” and “As we all know” signal relationships between ideas. The letter is easy to follow overall. Some linking is a little formulaic, however, and the transition from the event invitation to the actor’s local connection could be smoother. The closing also repeats the request for further details and thanks without adding much. For stronger progression, group the invitation and its justification more tightly, and use a more natural transition to connect her background with the community’s likely response.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for a formal invitation, including “opening ceremony,” “capacity,” “attendees,” and “consideration.” These choices communicate the main information, and the theatre facilities are described with some specificity. However, several expressions are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “four setting sections,” “complementary high resolution dark glasses,” and “meet and greet with such a great personality.” “Cineplex theater” and “food-court on the location” could also be expressed more naturally in this context. These word-choice and collocation issues do not prevent understanding, but they limit precision and fluency. Aim for conventional phrases such as “seating sections,” “complimentary 3D glasses,” and “meet you in person.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5

The letter includes both simple sentences and more complex forms, including the conditional invitation, “We would be grateful if you would attend,” and a reason clause beginning “As we all know.” Most sentences convey their meaning clearly, and the overall structure is controlled. Some grammatical errors remain: “the first theater in Himachal with the capacity of 150 people” needs a more natural article and construction, while “you originally belong from Himachal Pradesh” has an incorrect verb-preposition pattern. “Company will also offer” is missing a determiner, and “I will look forward” should be “I look forward.” Review articles, verb patterns and tense choices, while continuing to use varied sentence structures.
