Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5
The letter addresses all three required points: it gives details about the theatre, invites Mr. Smith to open it, and explains his suitability through his influence on Singaporean cinema and younger performers. The invitation is clear, and details such as the opening date, three halls, and IMAX-compatible screens make the information relevant. The reason for choosing him is also supported, although the praise is somewhat general: describing him as an iconic figure and one of the greatest actors would be stronger with a specific achievement or example. A little more practical detail about the opening event, such as what you would like him to do or when he should arrive, would make the invitation more fully developed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter has a clear overall progression: it introduces the company and invitation, describes the theatre, explains why the actor is suitable, and closes politely. Paragraphing helps distinguish these purposes, and phrases such as “To elaborate more” and “As you are” signal the relationship between ideas. The sequence is easy to follow, though some linking is a little formulaic, and the final paragraph combines the reason for inviting him with repeated praise. The closing also moves quickly from the invitation to “I’m eagerly looking forward to hearing from you.” Grouping the actor’s credentials and the invitation more smoothly, and adding a clear next step for responding, would make cohesion more flexible and polished.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task and includes some relevant, specific terms, such as “chief guest,” “state-of-the-art sound systems,” and “IMAX-compatible screens.” These choices help convey the theatre’s facilities and the actor’s role. However, several spelling errors—“eloborate,” “facitlity,” “Sigaporean,” and “inspiered”—and inaccurate forms such as “Dolby Atoms” reduce precision. Some expressions are also awkward or repetitive, including “brand new theatre” and “greatest actors on all time.” Aim for accurate spelling and more natural collocations, and vary repeated praise with precise descriptions of the actor’s contribution to cinema. The intended meaning remains clear despite these slips.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The letter uses a mix of straightforward sentences and more complex structures, including the relative clause “who inspired generations…” and the participial phrase “Having you as our chief guest…”. Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors affect accuracy. For example, “we are planing to open” should be “we are planning to open,” while “the greatest actors on all time” needs a corrected superlative construction, such as “one of the greatest actors of all time.” The opening sentence also contains the repeated “to” in “glad to to inform,” and punctuation spacing is inconsistent before the full stop after “theatre.” Check verb forms, articles, and sentence punctuation carefully while retaining the range of structures attempted.
