Dear........,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir,
I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing this letter to invite you on opening ceremony of our new theatre in the town
This new theatre is built in the town of Ancaster which is the suburbed area of Hamilton city. It is contructed with modern technology and self service kiosk to avoid long queues at ticket counters. There is also a plenty of free parking for vehicles and it is the most convenience location for local people who used to travel to another city to watch movies.
I would like to request to visit us on opening ceremony as a chief guest. It would be pleasure for all of our staff and your fans too. I would really appreciate it if you could give your valuable time to our team and make the celebration more joyful.
Since you have been all time favourite actor of our community, everyone in the theatre will be excited to see you physically. On the top of that your newely relerased film will be shown in this theatre, so it would be a great idea to surprise the audience by visiting the theatre.
I look forward for your positive response
Yours sincerely,
Balwinder Singh

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You address all three points clearly: you describe the theatre’s location and facilities, invite the actor to attend as chief guest, and explain the actor’s popularity and connection to the community. The details about the self-service kiosks and free parking make the venue more concrete, while the mention of the actor’s newly released film gives a relevant reason for the invitation. The purpose and tone remain clear throughout. To make the ideas more fully developed, specify practical details of the opening, such as its date or what you would like the actor to do during the ceremony. Also, explain more directly how the actor’s career or public profile would make the opening especially meaningful for the theatre and its audience.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall progression: it introduces the invitation, describes the theatre, makes the request, and then gives reasons for choosing the actor. Separate paragraphs help the reader follow these stages, and phrases such as “Since” and “On the top of that” signal connections between ideas. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent overall arrangement and shows some of the stronger control associated with a higher level. However, the links are occasionally mechanical, and the final reason could connect more smoothly to the actor’s suitability. The opening paragraph also ends abruptly without punctuation. Use a wider range of natural transitions and ensure each paragraph develops one connected purpose.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for a formal invitation, including “opening ceremony,” “chief guest,” “self service kiosk,” and “valuable time.” These choices communicate the main ideas, and the reader can understand the facilities and the actor’s importance to the community. There are, however, several spelling and word-choice errors, including “suburbed,” “contructed,” “convenience location,” and “newely relerased.” Some phrases are also not idiomatic, such as “see you physically” and “make the celebration more joyful.” These inaccuracies show attempts to use varied language but limit precision and naturalness. Check spelling carefully and learn common collocations for formal invitations and public events.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more developed sentence forms, including the relative clause in “which is the suburbed area of Hamilton city” and the conditional request, “I would really appreciate it if you could give your valuable time.” The message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “invite you on opening ceremony” needs an article and a different preposition, while “There is also a plenty” has an incorrect article pattern. “It would be pleasure” also needs an article, and “I look forward for” uses the wrong preposition after “look forward.” The first sentence of the theatre description would benefit from clearer sentence structure. Practise articles, prepositions, and complete sentence punctuation, while retaining your attempts at complex forms.
