Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Mr. Kumar,

I am writing to invite you to the grand opening of our new theatre on 3 November 2026 in New York.

This entertainment place is huge than our usual drama theatre, so it can accommodate more than thousands of people. The unique is that this newly built place is sound proof, and it cannot create noise pollution. We have added imported lights which can give mesmerising effect of screen.

I would be deeply honored if you could attend this opening ceremony. we all are huge fan of your acting, and its our pleasure to see you in person. Although you have busy schedule, I would really appreciate if you accept this invitation.

The reason why I want to come for this inauguration ceremony because you belong to film industry, and you are a perfect person for opening of multiplex.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Yours sincerely,

Raj Patel

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address all three requested points: you give details about the theatre, invite Mr. Kumar to the opening, and explain that his connection to the film industry makes him suitable. The invitation is clear and the date and location make it specific. However, some points are less fully developed than others. The theatre description focuses on size, soundproofing and lighting, but “more than thousands” is unclear, and the lighting detail does not explain what the audience will experience. Your reason for choosing him—“you belong to film industry”—is relevant but brief; explain how his reputation or contribution could make the opening memorable and attract attention. Overall, the purpose is clear, though some supporting ideas need clarification and extension.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The letter has a recognisable structure, with separate paragraphs for the theatre, invitation and reason for selecting the actor, followed by an appropriate closing. This makes the main points easy to locate. Some links between ideas are less smooth, however. The paragraph beginning “The reason why I want to come” shifts from inviting the actor to describing the writer’s own attendance, which interrupts the progression. The repeated use of “opening” and “ceremony” also makes the message feel somewhat mechanical. Use clearer transitions and keep each paragraph focused on one purpose—for example, move directly from the invitation to why the actor’s presence would benefit the event. More precise referencing would make the letter flow more naturally.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use a suitable range of vocabulary for a formal invitation, including “grand opening,” “accommodate,” “sound proof,” “mesmerising” and “inauguration ceremony.” These choices show an attempt to use less common language, and the overall meaning remains understandable. Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unclear: “huge than” does not express the intended comparison, “The unique is” is incomplete, and “give mesmerising effect of screen” is difficult to interpret. “Entertainment place” and “multiplex” are also less precise than “theatre” in this context. Aim for natural combinations such as “larger than,” “a distinctive feature,” and “create a striking visual effect.” This would make your description clearer while retaining an appropriately formal tone.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use both simple sentences and more complex forms, including “Although you have busy schedule, I would really appreciate if you accept this invitation.” The message is generally understandable, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “we all are huge fan” has problems with capitalisation, word order and agreement, while “its our pleasure” needs an apostrophe and a plural possessive form. The sentence “The reason why I want to come for this inauguration ceremony because…” is missing a necessary verb structure and does not clearly express the intended meaning. There are also missing articles in phrases such as “have busy schedule.” Review sentence patterns with “the reason is that,” article use, and subject–verb agreement. Greater accuracy in these areas would make the letter more polished.
