Dear........,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Susan,
My name is Chris, and I am writing to invite you for an inaugaural of a new theatre in Mumbai, Gujarat.
Recently, due to growing demands of public, we are opening a new theatre, which will have some exclusive facilities. The latest specifications have reclining sofa, where people can enjoy movies while sleeping. There is a large food court area and gaming zone, where all age people can be entertained. Apart from this, 5 dimension technology is the highlight of this cinema.
I would be honoured if you can come to the opening ceremony, scheduled on 20 November, Sunday at 5:00 pm. It will be a great pleasure to have you cut the ribbon, and facilitate the ceremony.
Most of the people of this city are big fan of you, and they would be excited to see you and meet you. This will also give you an oppotunity to promote your upcoming film "The Devdas".
Please let me know if you would be able to make it.
Yours faithfully,
Chris

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three requirements: you describe the theatre’s facilities, invite Susan to the opening, and explain that local people admire her and would be excited to meet her. The invitation is specific, with a date and time, and the mention of her upcoming film gives a relevant additional reason for attending. These details show some of the clear, purposeful development expected at a stronger level. However, the explanation of why she is a suitable person to open the theatre is only partly developed: being popular and promoting a film are useful points, but you could connect her career or public image more directly to the theatre and its audience. Some facility descriptions are also unclear, so not every part is equally well explained.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter is organised in a clear sequence: you introduce your purpose, describe the theatre, make the invitation, explain why Susan is a good choice, and close by asking for a reply. Separate paragraphs help the reader follow these stages, and linking phrases such as “Apart from this” and “Most of the people of this city” make the progression easy to understand. The overall organisation is effective and the message remains clear. To make the cohesion more flexible and polished, avoid relying on simple additions such as “Apart from this,” and use clearer links between the theatre’s features and the reason Susan’s presence would matter. A more conventional formal-letter closing would also strengthen the final impression.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the purpose, including “exclusive facilities,” “opening ceremony,” “cut the ribbon,” and “upcoming film.” These choices help convey the invitation and give the letter some specificity. There are also attempts at less common or promotional language, but some expressions are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “inaugaural,” “latest specifications have reclining sofa,” and “5 dimension technology.” Spelling errors in “inaugaural” and “oppotunity” also reduce accuracy. Choose established terms and check collocations—for example, describe the theatre’s “facilities” rather than its “specifications,” and refer to “5D technology.” This would make the vocabulary more precise and natural without changing the friendly, formal tone.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including the relative clause in “a new theatre, which will have some exclusive facilities” and the time phrase “scheduled on 20 November.” Most sentences communicate the intended meaning, and the paragraphing and punctuation generally support readability. Some grammatical errors remain, however. In “if you can come,” the conditional invitation would be more appropriately phrased with “could”; “all age people” needs a plural form; and “Most of the people … are big fan” has an agreement and number error. The sentence about the reclining sofa also needs a clearer grammatical structure. Review agreement, articles, and conditional forms, while keeping the varied sentence patterns you already attempt.
