Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Shahrukh,
I am working as marketing head at PVR cinemas. I am writing this letter to invite you for inauguration of our new theatre, which is located in your homtown.
We are opening new cinema hall, which has 10 ultra-HD screens with the world best audio system. This is going to be one of the largest theatres in our state with 300 seats per screen. Additionally, for canteen orders we gave that contract to your favourite food company.
I would really appreciate if you come for the inauguration because you are also come from the same city and you have very vast fan following in our city. People will definitely love to see you and they all are very excited to watch your upcoming movie. Moreover, you also inaugurated out first theatre, so our management decided to give 20% discount on tickets for your new film
I will wait for your positive respond.
Yours faithfully,
Ravi.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three requirements: you describe the theatre’s screens, sound system and seating, invite the actor to its inauguration, and explain his local connection and popularity. These details make the purpose clear and relevant. The explanation of why he is suitable is strongest when you mention that he comes from the same city and previously inaugurated the company’s first theatre. However, some points are less fully developed: the reference to the canteen contract and the 20% ticket discount is not clearly connected to the invitation or the actor’s suitability. A more explicit invitation with a proposed date or event details, and a fuller explanation of his role as a public figure, would make the letter more complete and persuasive.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter follows a generally clear sequence: you introduce your role and purpose, describe the theatre, explain why the actor is a suitable guest, and close with a request for a response. Paragraphing helps distinguish these stages, and linking expressions such as “Additionally” and “Moreover” guide the reader. Some connections are less clear, however. The canteen contract appears abruptly, and the sentence about the discount for the actor’s new film shifts away from the main invitation without explaining how the offer relates to the opening. The final request is also brief. Grouping related details more carefully and using a clearer transition into the reasons for inviting him would create smoother progression.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for a formal invitation, including “inauguration,” “ultra-HD screens,” “audio system,” and “fan following.” These choices communicate the theatre’s features and the actor’s appeal, and the meaning is generally clear. Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or informal, such as “homtown,” “world best audio system,” “vast fan following,” and “positive respond.” These do not prevent understanding, but they reduce precision and naturalness. Aim for standard collocations and check spelling and word forms. For example, “opening ceremony,” “state-of-the-art sound system,” and “favourable response” would sound more polished and appropriate in a professional letter.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including a relative clause in “which is located in your homtown” and a reason clause beginning “because.” The overall message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “I would really appreciate if you come” needs a more accurate conditional structure, and “you are also come from the same city” has an incorrect verb form. There are also missing articles in phrases such as “opening new cinema hall” and “for inauguration.” Review article use and verb patterns, and check sentence boundaries: the long sentence beginning “Moreover” joins several ideas without clear punctuation. More accurate control of these forms would make the letter easier to read.
