Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear sir,
This letter is to inform about a grand opening of a new theater in your county. This is creating an excitement among everyone since it is the first cinema hall to be built in the town.
The theater is located in the downtown. It is at short distance from the residential areas and several other retail outlets. Also, the campus covers a large area for the parking slots and a food court. Hence, it will be an ideal spot for the weekend.
We request you to provide your presence during an opening ceremony and inaugurate the theater. This will raise bars of an event and its popularity.
Locals irrespective of their age see you as a role model. You are a fitness icon among the youth. Adults and old age people highly respect you because of your charity work. Your presence will bring more audience in our grand opening.
Please consider our request and feel free to contact me anytime if you have further queries.
Yours sincerely,
Yash Mehta

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You address all three requirements: you describe the theatre and its facilities, invite the actor to inaugurate it, and explain why the actor is suitable. Details such as its downtown location, parking, food court, and the actor’s charity work make the invitation relevant. The reasons are generally clear, though some are asserted rather than fully explained: for example, saying the actor is a fitness icon and role model would be more persuasive if linked to the theatre’s aims or the local community. The opening also says the letter is to inform the actor about the opening, rather than immediately stating its purpose as an invitation. Overall, the task is covered clearly, with some ideas needing further development and precision.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall arrangement: it introduces the theatre, describes its location and facilities, makes the invitation, and then gives reasons for choosing the actor. Paragraphing supports this progression, and linking expressions such as “Also,” “Hence,” and “because” help connect details. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent organisation and shows some flexibility in linking ideas. However, a few connections feel mechanical or imprecise: “Hence, it will be an ideal spot for the weekend” does not clearly specify whether this refers to the theatre or the surrounding area, and “This will raise bars of an event” is difficult to follow. Clearer referencing and more natural transitions would make the progression smoother.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range for a formal invitation, including “grand opening,” “inaugurate,” “role model,” and “charity work.” These choices communicate the main ideas, and the reader can understand the letter throughout. There are also attempts at more ambitious phrasing, but some collocations are inaccurate or unnatural: “raise bars of an event” and “provide you to provide your presence” (the latter is better addressed as a wording choice) do not sound idiomatic. “Campus” is also an imprecise term for a theatre site, while “old age people” is an awkward expression. Aim for natural combinations and precise terms rather than elevated-sounding phrases; this would improve flexibility and control.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The response includes a mix of simple sentences and more developed structures, such as “Locals irrespective of their age see you as a role model” and the sentence explaining the actor’s reputation among different groups. Most sentences convey their meaning, and errors do not prevent understanding. Some grammatical inaccuracies remain, however. In “This letter is to inform about,” the verb needs an object or a passive construction, such as “inform you about.” “We request you to provide your presence” also has an awkward verb pattern; “We would be honoured if you could attend” is grammatically more natural. Review articles and prepositions in phrases such as “at short distance” and “during an opening ceremony,” as well as sentence-level punctuation.
